Vd. Jignesh Thakkar: In ancient times gulkand was not only made out of rose But also other flowers. Gulkand of Aragvadh is helpful in skin diseases and digestive tract diaorders. Gulkand kalpana is shita in property. gulkand is useful in skin disease and menorrhagia, hyper acidity, burning sensation in eyes palms and feet.
Dr. Sushant Patil: Shalmali flowers are also used to make this Kalpana. This acts on uterine disorders.
Ayulink: Suryatapi Gulkand recipe to make at home:
- take rose petals 500 grams, clean it - wash it thoroughly
- take 1 kilo grinded rock sugar powder
- take a neat and clean porcelain jar / bottle or glass bottle
- First spread a layer of rose petals on the bottom of jar, on top of it spread grinded sugar
- repeat the same, till petals and sugar utilized
- close the jar and tie the mouth of jar with cotton cloth
- keep this jar in sun light for 8 to 10 days (In Indian summer time)
- After 10 days, you will observe that sugar has melted with rose petals and a nice thick jam is ready to consume.
Gulkand is know as *Rose Petal marmalade* in Europe
Dr Jayesh Patel: Rock sugar must be used. Now a days many pharmacy uses plain sugar instead of rock sugar. So can't get proper result.
Dr. Anita Phadatare: Here repeat the same, means on next days we have to remove rock sugar & rose petals & again we have to fill the same?
Vd Sandeep Kumar: No .It means Layer by layer.

Dr. Hiral Khakhar: We can also add cardamom or prawal pishti in it..
Dr. Arvind Shahane: Gulkand is Pitt shamak, Pittaj twak rog, Stop bleeding.
Ayulink: my question is Is there any specific type of rose petls to choose for this recipe?
Dr Anzil Eramangalath: Gulkand recipe?
Gary Yuen: According to CP Khare's Indian Medicinal Plants, multiple roses go by the name taruni but gulkand uses rosa damascena.
Croatia Branko Markovic: Few years back I try to do it in same manner as described above. But I used brown raw sugar as Cristal sugar here is only industrial.. So, nothing melted and it stayed even 2 month on sun during summer. What can we use for making it right in Europe?
Gary Yuen: would this work? https://www.satnam.eu/sharkara-ayurvedic-sugar-500-g-p-3468.html
Vd Sandeep Kumar: We can crush and use
Ayulink: This method is called Surya tapi means with the help solar heat. If you can't find solar heat. u can apply other forms of heat to melt the sugar and mix it with petals like a process to make Jam. Many commercial producers in India (having large production), don’t go for solar heat - as it requires a large vessels, slow process etc.
Croatia Branko Markovic: Yes this is from our Prerak Ji. Just to mix rose with melted sugar? Yes I was thinking to do classical jam cocking like instead. while on the sun it should have a lid yes? You wore mentioning cotton cover..
Vd. Pritam Bharat Veer: Gulkand recepy - Rose petals and khand sharkara kept in a vessel fir longer time. Gulkand is very good pitta shamak especially for ushna gun of pitta. I tell patients to take gulkand 1 tsp+ 1cup milk+ 1 cup water.Boil until sidhha milk remains. Have it in rasayan kal. A very good rasayan too.
You can give this combination in kids. It's very tu yummy. So they like it. Also no need to add artificial flavours in milk like bournvita n all. As we are doing it by kshir sidhhi it will not increase kafa dosh. Everyone can try this. In case if you don't have time they add it in milk n have it. But in kids I do prefer sidhha kshir. I don't know the word but it's Gavthi gulab which must be used. Don't use those which are sold for the purpose of decorations. Now a days we get praval yukt gulkand too. In glass bottle or mruttika patra. But keep it air tight.
Croatia Branko Markovic: So my process was not good only because of shakara was not there? It was air tight on sun for 2 months and nothing happened..
Vd. Pritam Bharat Veer: without sharkara how can you prepare gulkand???
Croatia Branko Markovic: with brown sugar
Vd. Pritam Bharat Veer: Ok , I dont know gun of brown sugar so cant say.Try by using khand sharkara i.e. khadisakhar which we call in marathi.
Croatia Branko Markovic: Tnx
Dr. Bhavini Raja: Can we use dried rose petals? Is pink roses are more useful?
Vd Rameshwar Dhanaji: can we have picture of it ?
Vd. Dhruti Nirav Bhatt: Gulkand is Pittshamak,Dah shamak, trisha shamak. It's beneficial in Acidity,Burning of palm and foot, burning of eyes,Piles,In Pregnancy for nausea and vomiting. Indian Rose (Deshi Gulab)Petals r must be used for Gulkand . One pharma company makes Gulkand from Puskar Gulab .It has really good quality.I use Gulkand with milk or make coldrink from it .has very cooling effect when hyperacidity.
Dr. Bhavini Raja: Which pharma company?
Gary Yuen: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3586833/
It's interesting there's anti-HIV properties. At least dozens of herbs have been shown as such. I don't think anyone has considered if there is a cure through herbs and diet, but it may be possible if one has a strong enough immune system.
Ayulink: I have heard that rose flowers grows in Haldi Ghati area in Rajasthan are best. And few people / home industry, produce gulkand in that area. That is best in quality.
Most important is having good quality of rock sugar. Usually sweeteners available in local markets (sugar, jaggery (gud) or others are acidic in nature (there pH value is around 1.5 to 3). If this kind of sharkara is used, we dont get proper results. Acidic sweeteners can't control pitta.  But in ayurvedic texts the quality of sharkara is " it controls daha - burning, chhardi - vomit and trushna - thirst. How come? Means the sharkara (rock sugar) must have coolant effect in the body. Means such sharkara must have alkaline effect or high pH. This inspired me and my Guru in 1999 to make several trials to produce such rock sugar or sharkara, as per narrated in the books (without using any chemical) > nd we got success to produce sharkara with aprox 5.5 or above pH. (which is mentioned earlier by our friend Branko in this discussion).
The Gulkand produced with this sharkara is absolutely tasty and effective.
Only negative point: this sharkara is having more then double cost, so Indianpeople dont buy and ulkand is also not easy to sell in the Indian market.
Vd. Dhruti Nirav Bhatt: Yes it's true
Vd. Gurumahantesh: Can u explain sir How to prepare such sharkara
Ayulink: It's open pan boiling method, like in old style
Vd. Gurumahantesh: Means take sugar cane juice and boil?
Vd. Hardik bhatt: In charak sushrut and vagbhatt samhita there is no any referance for gulkand. Gulkand came from arabian countries in India. Acharya bhavprakash and afterwards gulkand is used. Gul means not only gulab or rose but any flower is used for gulkand. Gul is arabian word. Mostly we made gulkand from rose.. red rose. We can made gulkand from aaragvadh-- flowers, Vasa flowers also.
Vd. Jignesh Thakkar: My view is little different  previously same kalpna was known as sarkar kalpna .Then after modified form of sarkar came back to india as gulkand
Ayulink: My guru Late Vd. Kirit Pandya was preparing Neemkand from neem flowers. He was leading Ayurvedic dermatologist and was having very good results with this Neemkand
Vd. Pritam Bharat Veer: Good idea , can you tell us nirman vidhi?? It can.be very useful .
Dr. V B. Maheshwari: Prepration procedure is same as like with rose. Use nimba instead of rose
Ayulink: Yes. True. Replace neem flowers or neem seeds / Manjiri in  place of rose petals. It is very effective in chronic skin condition
Vd. Pritam Bharat Veer: We can use nimb leaves too or not
Vd. Dhruti Nirav Bhatt: Neem flowers are called Mohar
Vd Garima Shukla: We - in Gujarat call "manjar"
Gary Yuen: Is there a preferred source for roses? I've seen this Persian kind. It might be correct though i don't how the quality compares. Unani texts have the most info about damask rose itself. Some properties: aphrodisiac, cardiac stimulant, calms the heart.
Dr. Samir Suneri: Gulkand is good pittsamak dravya and I also using this as anupan with mahavatvidhvansak ras ekangweer rasa.
Dr. Ankita Saurabh Darji: We can add some cardamoms.
Dr. Misbah suhana: Gulkhand with navneeta helps in constipation
Dr. Ruchi Lucknow: Gulkand with mukta pistti  works good  in epistaxis in children
Dr. Samir Suneri: Nice information. In which type of constipation we can use this drug
Manoj Advaith: Gulkand is commonly used as an ingredient of Paan, a popular dessert and digestive of Pakistan and North India. Health benefits of Gulkand include alleviating all heat related problems like tiredness, lethargy, itching, aches and pains, reduces burning sensations in the soles and palms. It treats mouth ulcers, makes teeth and gums strong and also reduces redness and inflammation of the eyes.It reduces women's problems like leucorrhea and heavy menses. It improves appetite, betters digestion, corrects digestive issues. It is an excellent tonic, reduces stress, strengthens the heart, liver and central nervous system. Gulkand with nagakesara and jayaphala is helpful in burning micturation
Dr Anshul Bahl: Does gulkand increases kapha?
Dr. Jigar Joshi: Must be as it contains good amount of Sharkara.
