Next topic for discussion: Epilepsy (apasmar) #Ayurveda
Dr. Shahil H Bhavsar: Apasmar is told to be one of the mental disorder in Ayurveda. So as per my understanding manasik dosha should be brought in sam avastha. They are satwa rajas and tamas. Here satwa is diminished and other two are increased by their individual nidan. Samprapti itself says it is disorder of manas dosha. Convulsions can be correlated with the excessive rajas guna kriya leading to vat prakop Different states of patient during the convulsion and after the convulsion is depending on the dosha dominance. Hence medhya, vat shamak, chikitsa should be done

I used it to correct liver
Cap naushader +epsumsalt+blacksalt+hard+... to correct  liver.  In my view we shud correct  liver first. I made arq et my home with idly mommose utensils
It's easy to make. in frst pan I soak medicine  over night. Then boil it by keeping ice water on top. Then extract  liquid will be collected  in middle  portion. Since 4 months I was giving this till now no complains
Dr. Shahil H Bhavsar: Panch gavya ghrit Nasya with puran ghrit can be given
Dr. Mahjabeen: Kachnar goggul  also I made at home that's y good response It shud be given to Kafa dosha
Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Yesterday one pt came in OPD. 4 months back, he was hit by stone on head. Thereafter he had been suffering from tonic clonic convulsions. He didn't get any releif  inspite of allopathy treatment. One episode per week.  He has been taking medicine from our hospital. He has been prescribing Only Jatamansi. No even single episode in last two months.
92168: Caraka in listing causes notes diet before gunas and dosha. I think that may be correct. Modern science has noted gut bacteria as an influence of convultions. The modern trend has been to use a keto diet for treatment. That i think is not the best option.
Dr. Rachana Mumbai : Khar dudh is useful in epilepsy along with panchgavya ghrt very good results.....
This has being experimented by a BAMS doctor on her own new born.... Who got siezers due to forceps delivery immediately after birth...... Her father explored ayurveda and found this combination..... Initially she was on allopathic medication than the doctor tapered the medication and stopped allopathic medication by the child was 1 and half year old..
And he continued ayurveda medicines for 5 years of her age today that girl is 18 year old, she didn't get any episode of siezers till date...
92168: panchgavya ghrta and mahapanchgavya ghrta are listed in Caraka. mahapanchgavya may be less used since it is more complicated to produce.
Croatia Branko Markovic: Had one case of Apasmar with girl of 6 years old. She had up to 12 episodes per day! She was strictly on vata diet, taking brahmi vati, smriti sagar ras, brahmi ghritam, later mahakalyanaka ghritam. After 3 months she had 1-2 attack during night. Later just occasionally. After one year mother call me and told me that she didn’t have it at all and that people who didn’t knew her couldn’t believe she had Apasmar.
khar dudh - Donkey milk
92168: Donkey as well as numerous other milks have been used by many ancient cultures. Possible human milk is best and some say the only one appropriate. Not sure what other texts says, though Caraka notes it favorites growth and is used for massage, nasya, hemorrage, and as many should know, for eyes. Caraka lists human milk last, perhaps because at the time the texts were composed, India had already changed much from the Vedic age and people were uncomfortable with it. In another culture, I think the Greek doctor Galen, I think it was him or maybe it was pseudo-Aristotle, noted countless Greek doctors also mentioned its use.
Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Charaka has also prescribed Stool of leech for Abhyanga/Udavartana in Apasmara. Chronic Apasmara is considered as difficult to treat(दुश्चिकित्स्य)  and has acquired a firm footing (कृतास्पद). Rasayana chikitsa is prescribed for such condition. Shatavari with milk is very good and as Shatavari is gender specific ,it works  in women nicely. Every seizure is not epilepsy. SEIZURE:- Abnormal electrical activity in brain resulting in abnormal MOTOR, SENSORY or PSYCHOMOTOR experience called Seizure.. If person having tendency of recurrent seizure then it's called EPILEPSY...... EPILEPSY is spontaneous, recurrent abnormal electrical activity in the brain which may clinically manifest as abnormal motor, sensory or PSYCHOMOTOR experiences....MOTOR experiences manifest as TONIC, CLONIC, TONIC CLONIC, ATONIC, MYOCLONIC..  (1)Motor epilepsy mainly caused by provocation of Vata (and Pitta.). कम्पते- trembling, प्रदशेदन्तान्- Gnashing of teeth and biting of tongue, अनवस्थित पाणीपाद- instability of upper and lower limb - these are symptoms given in Vatika type..... (2) Sensory Epilepsy manifest as SOMATIC, SPECIAL SENSES( Abnormal visual experience..) ,VISCERAL ( abdominal cramps, diarrhoea- also called abdominal epilepsy). In clinical practice, Temporal lobe and Occipital lobe Epilepsy are commonly seen. . पुरुष अरूण कृष्णानि पश्येद रूपाणि- This is visual aura- Visual hallucination. Susruta has described Visual hallucinations in all three types of epilepsy. अशब्दश्रवण- hearing of such sounds as are non- existent, this is  Auditary hallucination given in Purvarupa... (3) Psychomotor Epilepsy manifests as very weird behaviour, most of times such cases are misdiagnosed as mental problem. Charaka  has described as बीभत्स चेष्ट- disgusting movements of limb( many times wierd sexually behaviour). When pt is asked that why are you doing such weird behaviour, pts reply that I have not behaved weirdly- स्मृतेरपगम-transit loss of memory... Charaka/Susruta have described all three types of epilepsy under one term of APASMARA...    Absence epilepsy-अभीक्ष्णमपस्मरन्तं क्षणेन संज्ञां प्रतिलभमानम्- losing and regaining consciousness instantaneously...
Ayulink Ayurveda: I was not sure, how many of us having clinical experience of management of Epilepsy. But I know that we can do better with ayurveda. One of the leading Neuro-physician of Gujarat state (Padmashri) Dr. Sudhir Shah (MD, DM-Neuro) is more confident then us for the treatment of Epilepsy. He strongly recommend all ayurveda doctors to go for our classical text books. According to him Charak Samhita was the first documented knowledge about Epilepsy. Unfortunately I have not much practical experience  to treat this condition. More or less I suggest Brahmi Ghrut, Ashwagandha Ghrut and medhya rasayanas. I have tried with shirodhara too, but not having significant improvements. Please share some practical tips for clinical practice.
Dr. Rugue : my experience is with the use of nasya  and oral panchagavya ghrita and the use of vacha in case of crisis
Ayulink Ayurveda: Vacha is very useful...but it should be used under control. Otherwise there can be serious side effects or complications
Dr. Rugue : Yes. Only if the patient have crisis
Ayulink Ayurveda: Plus patient never comes to ayurveda with onset of attack......Vacha can be very good in such case...if the doctor is having mastery in the use of Vacha.
Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: I use Vacha in almost every pts of Pratishyaya, Svasa and Apasmara... 300 mg in Combination...
Dr. Mahjabeen: I used vacha in many cases but compound  formula I used it in Pitta imbalance . Good response. I used in down syndrome. Where i given fr speech ...good response
Croatia Branko Markovic: Traditionally in my country they use Vacha in Amla pitta...nobody use it like Medhya drug
Dr. Manshukh Mangakiya: Jatamasi works in epilepsy
