Today's topic for discussion: ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder): ayurvedic view and ayurvedic approach to manage it.

Vd. Jignesh Thakkar: Sarashwatarist aswagandharist sarashwat churna are good option to treat this disease. In single drug jyotishmati could be also good option ..in short treatment should be antipsychotic and vata samak. It is related to vata dominance...vata has chal (moving) guna when chal guna in body and raja guna in mind increases ADHD happens. In vata prakruti guna ....अल्प केशो कृशो रुक्षो वाचालश्चल मानसः। स्वप्नेशु आकाशचारि च वात प्रकृतिको नरः।।  so chal manasa is Guna of vata. in this type of cases we should control vayu.  Best medicine could be vacha. because it is ushna in guna and antipsychotic. Most contraindicated drug in ADHD is vistinduk because it has chal guna  stimulates nerves and thus we should not use vistinduk containing medicine like vistindukadi vati, navjeevan ras or agnitundi in this type of cases for other causes.

Vd. Mahesh Akani: Adhd: Result is very slow. At night when child is sleeping at that time Auto suggestion & story telling by parents. Manas mitra vatak, sarshwatarisht, ashwagandha, sunth, aatmagupta, Abhyang, shirodhara, nasya r very useful. Above all treatment r vata shamak & Mano balya

Vd. Hardik bhatt: Jatamansi in combination of medhya drugs also a good

Dr Dipak Shirude: Very bad prognosis with aushadh .. Seems some improvement with shirodhara .. I am not satisfied with my treatments given to such cases ..

Drugs like Sutshekhar .. BVC .. Brahmi vati suvarnayukta are looking hopeful sometimes but that is also not permanent resulting .. Frankly speaking .. I cannot decide borders of between ADHD, Down's syndrome, Mental Retardation etc. I have not studied these modern terms .. My study regarding Unmad, Apasmar, Atattvabhinivesh and Various Grahas is yet not completed .. Such patients come to me sometimes but I cannot hold them for a longer period ..

Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Down is completely different... While ADHD can be boon for many boys.. Michael fleps was suffered from ADHD..I think its not related with any type of prakriti.. I seen a patient with ADHD, initially stage of disease , he was very hyper active. In adolescent he become very calm... Down is chromosomal problem, trisomy of 21 chromosomes… These are some images for differentiate with Down... Yes it is not prakruti related but i told it For interpretation of ADHD as vat disease. ADHD is vikruti...because of vata and rajas guna.

Dr Dipak Shirude: I know some basic things about Down's etc. .. But when a patient of Down's behaves like ADHD or MR .. ?!?! .. Signs and symptoms mix up very much .. That is what I wanted to state ... .. .Study of grahas mentioned in Ayurved will prove beneficial to understand effective treatment of ADHD ...

Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Down pts are more likely to have ADHD

Birju Acharya:  Shavasan and Meditation. Tratak karma in yogic Shatkarmas can be of great help for children.

Canada Dr. Nitin Shah: ADHD we can consider with excess vata and oil massage, quality good fat in forms of EFA through sesame oil, flex oil, cow's ghee etc. In diet, avoiding over stimulation in life style, time to time matra basti, adaptogenic herbs like tulsi, ashwagandha, Brahmi are beneficial.  And of course, regular practice of pranayama particularly ujjayee and bhramari followed by meditation

Vd. Ami mehta: ADHD is a behavioral - neurological disorder.  According to Ayurveda vata dominant tridoshaja disease of manovaha shrotas. We can use vatakaphahar, medhya, rasayan drugs. Like brahmi, ashwagandha,  tagar, vacha, jatamasi,  guduchi,  triphala,     satavari. Also used abhrak bhasma, vat chintamani ras, smruti Sagar ras, medhya rasayan choorna, kapoor kanchali. Also cow milk shirodhara with medhya drugs give good result.

Canada Dr. Nitin Shah: See the keyword in ADHD is H, which is related with hyperactivity , which is related with excess vata and some time pitta too.
As pitta is predominantly fire and fire always go up and never going down so some time need to be cooled down. So if ADHD with lots of fiery emotions like anger, hate, jealousy etc. Than vata-pitta pacifying protocols

Vd. Bhavesh Thakkar: It is no doubt vata imbalance. Brahmi tailam for head.
Aswagandha, Suvarna muktadi gulika gives results. Asan - pranayam - meditation etc also needed.

Shri Minoo parabia: I think there's some confusion. Down's syndrome is a genetic disorder 21 trisomy as mentioned. ADHD is a psychological issue. I know of schools taking care of such children. Parents also need counselling to handle such kids. Brahmi is just fine and  sufficient. Rest is giving full attention to a child.
Give lots of love and care. Channelize energy to productive activities or hobby.
I think that movie Taarey zamin par, although talks about Dislexia, very much pertains to this too.

Vd. Prerak Shah: I will support Dr. Nitin's comment to consider involvement of pitta dosha in ADHD.

Vd. Bhavesh Thakkar: Yes. Counseling is must. There is an interesting remark about ADHD: Once long back when I was with Dr P K Warrier the Managing Trustee and Chief Physician of Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal. An NRI patient of ADHD visited him, he was a regular patient and was much much better with the medicines. As mentioned my Minoo Parabia ji the kid was attending the school and taking Drs medicines. If I am not mistaking he was given Suvarna Muktadi Gulika Aswagandharistam and Saraswataristam gold along with Shirodhara. But interesting point he made  during discussion was according to Dr PKW ADHD could be a result of vaccination. He is strongly against vaccination. He said many psychological conditions could be a result of vaccination.

Shri Minoo parabia: Very keen observation by Dr.  Warrier. Possible.

Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Its true, the nature of hyper activity should be channelised

Dr. Bhagyashri Panchal:  In children..it is treated with the love...

Shri Minoo parabia: Pamper the ear lobes daily for 3 minutes with your index finger and a thumb to avoid neurological problems including Alzheimer!

Vd. Ajay Pithiya: Childhood according to ayurveda is stage of kapha which is tama pradhan..  Hyperactivity suggest excess of raja.. Though this is psychological issue, later on physical problems occurs inherited to vata nd yes pitta related too

Vd. Dhruti Kagrana: ADHD -
Dosha:- Tarpaka kapha, Sadhaka pitta, and Prana,Udan & Vyan vayu.
Ayurvedic approach to treat Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is to enhance the dhi, dhriti and smriti resulting into increased mental coordination.
There are two types of approach to treat the ADHD, which includes herbs that pacifies all types of organs, dhatus and srota of the body.
1.These herbs pacifies the vitiated Vata dosha. These herbs effectively correct the body metabolism and maintain the proper functioning of all organs.
2.The other class of herbs are prescribed for correcting the mental disorder and effectively rejuvenate the brain. They are classified as Medhya Rasayan, which means they provide maximum nutrition to the brain, enhances dhi, dhriti, and smriti and improve coordination among neural complex and various mental factors.
The Ayurvedic approach relies on the mechanism to regulate the mental performances which involves;
*Tikta rasa directing medha (intellect)
*Ushna Virya and Tikshna Guna increases grasping power and perception
*Smaran retrieves Pitta
*Sara Guna improves prerana (motivation)
*Tridosha Shamaka pacifies Vata and regularize the function of mana (heart) and improves attention, working memory and procedural memory

Germany Helga Fuchs: ADHS Need strong routine, food, massage, and soft environment. I only have experience with herbs like brahmi and Bala. Giving body massage with same oils, and it is very important to treat the parents too. Learn them the routine first and to cook food who nutrients the body and mind.
We here in Germany says, if child is sick, treat the mother and father. Both needs good habits to each other and very important, both have to give same advice to the child. Differences creates pressure and conflicts in the child. And child have to learn disziplin. Most important, child have to do some work in family and for family. And maybe all together little things for others. By this way child have the feeling for beeing important and needed. And he can express his energy. And for sure…children need to play and to move. Today most play on computers. No direct training with other in nicely form. Computer very less and no mobil. And adults have to learn that childs are louther and running and crying. Time for running and time with discipline is needed. Same for adults, not so much excentric and good Vata routine and treatments. Shiro too but no Shiro for childs. And shure yoga and pranayama.

Vd. Kinshuk Hirpara:
(ADHD) is a behavioral disorder of children that comprises perhaps 50% of referrals to child neurologists, behavioral pediatricians, and child psychiatrists. It is characterized by inattention, with increased distractibility and difficulty in sustaining attention, poor impulse control, and decreased self-inhibitory capacity, as well as motor overactivity and motor restlessness.[1,2] The incidence of ADHD in school-going children in the West and India ranges from 5%–10%.[3] Two to four times more boys than girls are affected.[4,5] It often continues into adolescence and adulthood and can cause a lifetime of frustrated dreams and emotional pain. A must read scientific paper on this subject http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3221068/

Germany Helga Fuchs: Thank you very much for this report Vd Kinshuk Hirpara. Wowww, I will discuss it with my doctor friend here. He is Doc of school medicine and sometimes we work together. Maybe we can start some work together for children with ADHS. Only one little problem is given for me. - Shiro for children under 14. Feel not well with them. Why? Yes Shiro well done creat wonders in regulation. But what I see, the common problems in childs with diagnosis ADHS as well as with diagnosis ADS, missing important experiences. As to learn to sitting still, to think how her actions works in the world... And and and. This are needed experiences to have balance. By treating with Shiro, manosha gunas get balanced, yes, but it gives not the missed learning experience. Only the strenght to be more able to comfort others and himself by relaxing. As I understanding second it's only dease of Trigunas. But if one is K prakruti or V prakruti, he is still different in  mind and body movement. One is slow to get but this is not a problem, he only need more time but have it. V is opposition. Fast understanding and fast loosing. But both have natural basics who must be trained. In Shiro, now I am afraid to disturb by manipulating manodhosha, this underlying important process. As in yoga, there is no need for childs to do special work before eight +-; and if we train them with yoga we can harm them. By this we start only with suryanamaskar soft and gayatrimantram, to give strenght to body and mind. And little little training to sitting quiet for short time. So it is nothing put down by outside regulation, no it is worked out by mind and body of the child.
If you do Shiro now and medicine, I miss your advice and information what you do after your successful treatment with Shiro. Maybe we can do it here to.😇. Hope you can clear my conflict. Many childs here in a big need and schoolmedicine only giving strong drugs as Ritalin. Many natural doctors against them and try with homöopathy and natural treatment. Success is given, but slow and parents are tired. Thank you. You should start this project in the west. Childs are our future and must be clear and strong. Yoga program then we build up and change earliest with 16. For not disturbing the natural growing process of dhatu. In yoga and ayurveda we manipulate with nature the nature, due the working process. This is, why so much success is given.
Vd Kinshuk Hirpara. Sorry, another question. In ADHS many adults have problems with her learning and studys, children too. It is so heavy for them to read, because she cannot focus on one word by reading, eyes are seeing all written words in the line. And by this disturbing she mast repead many time to get the meaning in her understanding. I have worked with an adult with a special technical. Paranormal Surgert to help her with ADHS. I do this to find out if there are some possibilities to help in this way. I was working on the eyes to give some input to her  Nervsystem. I use this technic for eyeproblems and for hpd. Her ADHS was getting relaxed, but most success for her was, that she can reading normal. In your study's, do you find any sign for better results in reading, or only in better mental improvements at all. I think this problem shut be solved or be less by Shiro to? As we see in nasya eyesight is getting better, most time. In Marsha and virecan nasya. More in brhman. Yes?

Vd. Neha Dipam Tripathi: Shaaman nasy gives good result in this

Mr. Bunty Gandhi: Came to know so many new things about ADHS.
Dr. Hardik- MD: I also

Vd. Neha Dipam Tripathi: Sthir gun pradhanya hoy + medhya + baly hoy evu drug ane ena thi sidhdha ghrit nu Sevan with milk and also can be used for nasya

Vd. Kinshuk Hirpara: Well, in option to Shirodhara,  I think drops of cow ghee in ears and nose. Also rubbing at foot soles. That will calm his nervous system . As cow ghee has so many tarpana qualities. And in matter of concentration , v hv many medicines like Brahmi and shankhpushpi.  But instead of this I have full trust on brahm Rasayana . Which has amazing results in kids with poor coordination. With all this, adhd kids have to take some councelling sessions.  And we can also teach kids meditation and deep breathing.

Vd. Prerak Shah: Thank you all friends. Let's conclude this topic. I will prepare summery today.

Todays topic for discussion:

Sarpagandha - uses, complications, side effects, special recommendation / caution for use.

Vd. Jignesh Thakkar-Bhuj: major complication with sarpagandha is impotence

Bunty Gandhi: When my mother was using Sarpagandha Ghan Vati for insomnia ,She was having problem in opening eyes in night. She was feeling like vibration in eye cornea. Only in night. And we tested it for few days. That was happening only when she used to have sarpagandha ghan vati ..Reason : Don't know actually ….
Later on moved on Siledin in which there was no such problem.

Vd. Dhruti Kagrana:
Sarpagandha - Uses:-
Krumihara – useful to relieve worm infestation and infection. Useful in the treatment of insect bite, scorpion bite, rat bite etc. Removes the toxic effect of rodent bite. Vishamajwara – useful in recurrent and chronic fever. Sarpagandha has calming effect over mind and brain. It induces sleep. It also relieves excited state of mind, hence useful in schizophrenia (insanity). It decreases blood pressure. It contracts uterus and induces menstruation. It is used in the treatment of epilepsy, panic attacks and anxiety. It suppresses early ejaculation.
Hence used in the treatment of premature ejaculation and early excitement.
Side effects:-
Because it stimualtes uterus, this herb should not be used during pregnancy.
This medicine should be used strictly under medical supervision. Special care is needed when it is administered along with other medicines for high BP. The combined effect may lower the BP to a great extent. Its sleep enhancing effect may further increase if taken by an alcoholic.  Hence, precaution is needed.
special recommendation / caution for use:-
HTN, Insomnia

Vd. Dipam tripathi: i used only sarpgandha churna in case of anidra and hypertension.... good result and i never seen any advers effect….in the use of sarpgandha ghanvati...some pt having sleepiness.... sirogaurav....tandra...in the morning....

Minoo parabia: Rauvolffia perhaps one of the earlier herbs like Papaver and cannabis to draw attention of modern researchers. Dr. R. J. Vakil, the then chair of botany at KEM Mumbai, published his paper 1949. He showed anti hypertensive effect of isolated single molecules of Sarpagandha. Interested can see the original paper on Himalaya website.  It was highly held regimen, soon to be recognised as depressant on prolonged usage.
Lateron NCL Pune showed that there's a whole battery of molecules and if given in combination, iatrogenic reaction could be avoided!  Lo and behold, why not to use the natural one, so kindly gifted by the nature!
It is intended to regulate BP. And it does effectively. Disciplined use is required, as already mentioned by Dr.  Dhruti.

Germany Helga Fuchs: No experience with sarpaghanda, sorry. No sideffect with sarpaghanda in High BP? Interesting.

Vd. Ajay Pithiya: I noted adverse effect of sarpagandha - nasal congestion…in Some articles also quoted that it creases suicidal tendency

Bunty Gandhi: Once Dr D N Shahane told me that sarpagandha if used alone for long time then it can have side effects in some patients so it should be used in combination with other medhya herbs.

Minoo parabia: You are right Mr. Gandhi. I prefer Brahmi-Centella and Suhaga.

Vd. Ajay Pithiya: Sarpagandha ghanvati is a good combination but dosage must be very strict it contains parsik yavani (hyoscyamus niger) and jatamansi..Ideal anupana (vehicle) for sarpagandha is milk or ghee

Dr. Dipak shirude. jalgav: Definitely, Sarpgandha is a best choice for hypertension .. It works right from the moment you swallow .. Very remarkable thing I have found about it is that the action remains at least up to 18 hours ..

I use it in choorna tablet form .. Each tablet weighing 250 mg approx. In difficult kind of HTN patients, I have started it 2 tablets thrice a day even but then after regular record keeping of blood pressure, we reduced the doses up to 1 tablet only in a day .. We can choose vyaan kaal as well as evening vaat kaal for better results .. Before reducing doses of Rauwolfia, we usually give up patients ongoing modern medicines with or without the consent of modern physician and of course patients own will .. It is joyous for a patient to give up modern medicine for hypertension .. But it is notable that we need to provide other cardio protective medicine as well as proper attention towards patient's routine, diet, exercises along with effective counselling is important, as disease relates to sadyopranhar marma ..
Sarpagandha presents some unwanted symptoms like extra drowsiness in the morning, sleepy tendency, slightly puffy face (Shopha), weight gain in some patients. I have yet not noticed any long term side effect about Sarpgandha, but I think that they exist. More study and experience (and more number of patients also) needful.

Vd. Bhavesh Thakkar: According to bhav prakash nakuli Katustikta kashayoshna. It has hot property. Usna virya, yet I found many of ( not all ) patients got severe cough and cold during the period of intake of sarpaghandha.
The symptoms subsides as soon one discontinuation of sarpaghandha.
few of my patients got mild psychological symptoms mainly delusion.
Dizziness, sleepiness are common complains.
Infect I use it in many insomnia patients for short period of time.

Vd. Mahesh Akani Palanpur: Sarpagandha is very good in
1, psorisis : if it's created by psychological
2, any cause of High b.p
3, insomnia, Anidra…….but it's dose is very low. As 60 mg to 120 mg on one time…
Heavy dose gives symptoms of bhram, low bp, weakness

Vd. Prerak Shah: My query is: is it dependable herb for high BP?
Means can I be assured after giving Sarpagandha in high BP condition, just like any other modern anti-hypertensive drugs?

Vd. Dipam tripathi: ya.....maintain the dose
Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: It will depend on sarpagandha works on what level and cause of Hypertension as there are many causes...

Vd. Kinshuk Hirpara: I would prefer jata mansi rather then sarpa gandha drug as so much controversy over it. N in my practice jata mansi I have seen gives best result even in high blood pressure and insomnia related to stress

Vd. Rajal Shukla: Complication of Sarpagandha is nasal blockge. ....some times brethless filling. .Use Sarpagandh with Rasayan churna/ tablet… Triphala churna/tablet with equal part of Sarpagandha

Minoo parabia: Dr. Prerak's question is very pertinent….Let me make some comments.  Sarpagandha is certainly effective on BP. But not without side effects.
So like Vatsnabh,  Bhallatak and many other herbs, sashtra has pinpointed either mitigation methods or recommended combinations. Over the years the knowledge system must have evolved and got refined as data from individual experience flow in. This is the unfortunate part. Most of the time the information remained burried. For the first time I am seeing this happening on this platform. This makes me immensely happy as my beloved knowledge system is being modernised in real sense. This will make it sharper and better understood by the rest of the World.

Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Reserpine is alkaloid of snakeroot..its antihypertensive.. Reserpine and beta blockers both cause nightmare.. Many times only reserpine is used, I think we must use sarpagandha as  whole rather than its alkaloid reserpine.. This must be apply on all herbal preparation.. Many pharmacy uses only active principle..its not Ayurveda concept. Its true it will be beneficial to use in combination

Vd. Ketan Bhimani: I got best combination of sarpgandha as tab cardostab from nagarjuna company. ..... Sarpagandha+triphala same part. .... Because of our general opd, there is 60% pt diagnosed as udavart mins vayu n vichar vayu compression. I found best releif by this tab along with panchakarma therapy.

Minoo parabia: Yes.  Very true. History of single molecular drug, maybe of herbal origin is before our eyes. Quinine, reserpine, penicillin, taxol and many more are  having side effects
.
Treat a man as a whole and use a drug as a whole.
What we must seek is still better understanding of our drugs. They are so wonderfully broad acting that others are not ready to accept. Therefore our triumphs at individual level must be made public. One may not have sufficient evidences but then let it be for our young researchers to prove the claim s.
Science always progresses slow.

Bunty Gandhi: How effective sarpagandha is in unmad roga ?

Dr. Hardik- MD: Sarpagandha is very useful in erection without any cause in night also….Redness of eye and excessive salivation are complication of srapgandha including above discussion…Shushrut has mentioned it in amanushopasargadhyaya

Germany Helga Fuchs: Only a small question at least about Sarpagandha for high blood pressure. Is there any end for using the herb, and, then the hight BP is healed? Is gone? Or is there the need to take it for ever? Hm, I guess without changing lifestyle and food habit, and some work on the mind, only by medicine there may be a big helph but not healing. Is it like that in your experience dear Doctors?

Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: In primary HTN, there is genetic predisposition + environmental influences..its necessary to avoid environmental factors...its necessary to give attention on these factors with  Herb like sarpagandha etc... Primary can be controlled while secondary is curable...sarpagandha and other herbs are beneficial in primary HTN.. Sometimes with  appropriate management , it gives good relief, but there will be always tendency of HTN... And it can even possible that there is no need of medicine for lifetime in rare cases...

Shri Minoo parabia: Helga, total healing in cases if HTN is conditional. Change of life style and food habits are must. Yes yogic exercise may compensate up to certain extent to unchanged lifestyle and stress. Failing which recurrence is inevitable. So continuous monitoring with dose modifications is the advisable management. I have seen cases with remarkable recovery with lifestyle change and controlled foods.

Vd. Hardik Bhatt: I think Hypertension causes are many more ... So not only any medicine either Ayurved or alopathy effect for temporary or permanent .. Change of life style , diet , pranayam are also advisable for hypertension..

Vd. Bhavesh Thakkar: Hypertension - is not mentioned in ayurveda texts.
How to see hypertension according to ayurveda..? Is it a condition or disease..?

Dr Dipak Shirude: I have seen tapering in the dose of Sarpgandha .. Many patients are shifted then on drugs like Dhamasa, Ashwagandha etc. This will feel enthusiastic to somebody but it is true that Ayurved can cure HTN !!!

Vd. Jignesh Thakkar: I did virechan in some patients not for HTN but for other problems like urticaria, skin disaese, digestive tract diseses.  Which patient were on antihypertensive amongst them some are noticed dizziness when i did chek up. i get bp low and discontinued modern anti-hypertensives.  I think virechan and rakt mokshan can be anti hypertensive treatment modalities in ayurveda. we should spare Sarpgandha as tranquilizer and use cautiously in HTN

Vd. Mahesh Akani Palanpur: Sarpagandha give after food. I am using cardostab.
HT as per text pitta-vataj symptoms; we using Sudarshan, dhamaso, guduchi satva, kadu etc But today our subject is sarpagandha

Vd. Jignesh Thakkar: Respected team of doctors for night giving sarogandha is ok but plz suggest when in day time we are prescribing Sarpgandha what type of combination we should make? As during day time sleepiness creates troubles for some patients. because i have some patients driving heavy vehicles. In them Sarpgandha is not applicable.but if we think some combination for drivers.

Bunty Gandhi: Tagarashwagandhadi Yoga would be helpful in those patient if you are indicating for mental stress and sleeplessness.

Vd. Prerak Shah: During panchkarma processes, in few cases, I have observed rise in blood pressure. In such cases, can I give sarpagandha? will it work for sure? (patient does not have past history of high or low BP)

Vd. Mahesh Akani Palanpur: I have observed that. After process will be normal. But during process can give it.

Dr Dipak Shirude: I don't think anyone can give Sarpagandha or any other medicine especially when we have to induce Vaman, virechana, raktmokshan or basti.  Before snehan swedan or shirodhara or lepam etc .. Small scale up-karmas , Sarpgandha can be administered , as I think and do. It is a kind of achieving fitness before operation . It is simply vast prakop as per Ayurved !!

Todays topic for discussion:  DNS (Deviated Nasal Septum), Nasal Polyp and sinusitis ...#ayurveda approach

Vd. Prerak Shah: Most people suffering from chronic cold are labeled as DNS. Plus they r advised "that there is no cure for it...and surgery is must"...But unfortunate part is...surgery is not successful in many cases...and re-occurrence seen after short span of 4-6 months.
some other common causes are nasal polyp and inflammation of membrane...our problem is we go with simple diagnosis of 'pratishyay' {most vaidyas dont go for nasal (PNS) x-ray examination and they miss these causative factors of symptoms of pratishyay}. Here one more issue is how to differentiate our treatment as per these different causative factors. Do we have separate treatments for sinusitis, nasal polyp, DNS or inflammation of nasal membrane

Group 2:
Vd. Gaurang darji: Chronic stage --> inflammatory factor
Polyp..Tasya dhanvantaryanam adhikaram...
Khsar karma is recommended

Dr dipak shirude. jalgav: The most important cause for DNS is recurrent or continuous flow of air on nose and forehead . sleeping under speedy fan or AC . sitting at open window while journey .
Daily overhead bath and keeping the head slight wet for a long period .
Drinking liquids (even water) at the time of sleeping .
Use of artificial scents - soaps - shampoos deodorants etc. also provides irritation to the soft bone and covering mucosa .
So keen observation of patients routine is must for Nidan parivrjanam which is the first step of an ideal chikitsa .
External local treatment I.e. Bahi-parimarjan chikitsa in the form of lepam and putting typical oils on head gives best relief .
Some best herbal combinations are resulting very nice as anti allergic . they contain guggulu kanchanar kokilaksha guduchi rajani etc.
Kanchanar guggulu . sukshma trifala .  haridrakhand vati . laksmivilas - mahalakshmivilas are some options .
Regular Nasya with simple warm sesame oil is useful ..

Group 3:
Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: I think deviated nasal septum is not structure abnormality as there are many many persons with deviated nasal septum.. These people may be (or sometimes may not) prone to Pratishyay or other problems related to nose... According to Ayurveda(Acharya Kashyapa) pratishyay is mainly due to provocation of Vata and Kapha Doshas.... First apply cow ghee on nasal membrane than take inhalation of bishop weed(ajmo)..its very good for DNS, Sinusitis... Jaggery and ginger crush in 2-3 tea spoon water and boil them and after filtering instill 8-8 drops in both nose. This is very beneficial where there is headache with runny nose/ congestion....Applying warm  paste of sweet flagroot (acorus calamus ) on nose(out side) is also very good. Or put this powder in handkerchief and take smelling of it..

Group 4:
Vd. Neha dipam: In DNS laxmivilas ras  tribhova kirtiras nasy of arand sneh and vacha gives good result….And for nasal polyp kshar oil nasya…and erand tail nasya alternat day

Group 5:
Surinder Pal Singh: Dashmoolkarutraym and punarnva kashyam empmty stomach twice a day, some immunomodulator composition like immunorm containing haldi, Bilva, aloevera and tab histantin from KAPL

Vd. Dhruti Kagrana: In DNS Daily pratimarsha Nasya is beneficial to avoid inflammation of nasal membrane. Nasal polyp Avpidak Nasya or use of ksharkrama. sinusitis treat with Navan Nasya..

Vd. Hardik bhatt: Internal snehapan with oil, and daily nasya is also gives good result..

Todays topic for discussion:  Irritative cough…..#ayurveda approach

Group 2:
Dr. Dipak Shirude: Irritation always stands on Vat .. So ..  A right choice of snehpan
Vatshamak kalpas like Dashmool katutraya quath, Dashmool rasyanam lehya,
Combination of sitopaladi . yashtimadhu . karkatshrngi with honey works sure…
A right choice of Aushadh grahan kala is also important as same medicine doesn't work if Aushadh grahan kala (intake time of medicine) is ignored ..

Group 3:
Minoo Parabia: Throat mucosa responds immediately to change in weather, too sweet, pungent or sour  food, strong smell, cold wind, smoke; short of breath etc.
Mix salt and turmeric in a bootle full of water. Keeo it handy on wash basin. Gargle the throat repeatedly.Keep ganthoda- peeprimool in mouth. Sip water. Keep throat moist.

Group 5:
Vd. Dhruti Kagrana: Irritative cough:- Nidan:- Ruksha Anna Sevan, Dhum , Dust etc...
Dosha:- vata(Apan,Prana,Udana), kapha
Dushya:- Rasa
Sathansamshraya :- Galapradesh
Chikitsa:- Vasa,Sunthi,Kantakari,Yashtimadhu,  Shitopaladi churna is useful.

Group 6:
Dr. Hardik- MD: Irritative cough is only purva roop of kasa, Shukpurna galasyata
Because of this pt try to remove kapha from gala (throat) or talu or kanth pradesh by coughing. So samprapti ghatak are same to kasa. In this type of condition simple (vata-kapha) gud (jeggary) + adraka (ginger) or eladi vati or (pitaj) yashtimadhu ghanavati we can use.

Vd. Prerak Shah: I think 'Irritative cough' is having some relation with lungs too.
Usually general practitioners use broncho-dilator, mucolytic agents and expectorants together to treat it.  That's symptomatic treatment.

Vd. Jignesh Thakkar : 1)fooddigestionmore ras+litrle kafa.                        2).foodmandagniindigestionlittle ras +more kafa.
So behind kas main treatment should be concentrated on jathragni mandh. Kapha is mala of rasa. so accept vataj and kshataj langhan is best medicine. And see samprapti अधः प्रतिहतो वायु। It means vata obstructed below. so for destroying this we have to prescribe vatanulomak drug. and by above mentioned theory i have used castor oil +sunthi in vatik kas. got wonderful result. usally dry cough(vatik kas) is challenging for allopathy. and it is too frequent that Patient get tired .and pain is also symptom of vayu.so in vatik kasa by coughing patient get pain in head and shoulder, chest, back etc.so in vatik kas snehpan is best medicine and as a anulomak drug castor oil is drug of choice. sunthi is also vat kapha shamak. where everything fails in vatik kasa- use castor oil+sunthi….sometimes at home Patient takes haridra for kasa but vatik kas get aggravated by ruksha guna of haridra. so drug of choice is not haridra in vatik. we should educate people.

Vd. Bhavesh Thakkar: Trikatu + kantakari + ghee in sushka kasa -vata dominant

Kantakari + sitopaladi + ghee in pitta dominent sushka kasa. …Vyosadi vati and laxmivilas ras in pratishyay……Pachan is very important as said earlier in all cough. Agnikumar ras is also good in kaf- vat conditions.

Group 6:
Vd. Hardik: We can manage this according to shushrut samhita. In sushrut sutra sthan 12/32-36…

Vd. Tapan: Wow..Dr. Hardik.
On larger scale pollution control दुदुम्भीस्वनीय अध्याय is also worth reference. (Dudumbhisvaniya  chapter) Sushrut, Kalpa sthan, ch. 7

Mix jatamanshi,  udad flour,  acacia in equal proportion. Gently rub after bath. Use pure leather chuppples. Soak 5g kadayagum With 300ml milk in the morning. Add sugar cardamon. Eat after lunch daily.Sarivadhyasav 20 ml after dinner.

Group 4:
Dr. Pulastya Vora: Hyper means excessive;hydro means water. This term is used to denote excessive perspiration through the skin. The main reason for the condition is to reduce heat generated inside the body due to running;jogging; exercising or after taking very hot or spicy diet or after working in very hot temperature. During hyperhydrosis there is loss of both water and salts. Unfortunately we try to compensate only water loss and never pay any attention to loss of salts. So we take more water only. In this situation salts present in the body are further diluted leading to hyponatremia a condition of loss of sodium in major; also loss of chloride and sugar too. Excess fat can also cause hyperhydrosis because fat acts as an insulator and does not allow heat to go out.

Group 5:
Vd. Nikul Thakkar: Kamdudha Ras + praval pishti+ LaghuVasant malaini Ras + Yastinadhu Ghanvati of cow ghee's coated.  Combination of these drugs i used in 2 patients ..  Male.. Age 29 and 37 years.  for 6-8 months. Now 100% relief in Both Patients.

Vd. Hardik Bhatt: Sudarshan ghanvati or sudarshan churn gives good result for excess sweating in Palm and soles ... (It's a condition of aama .. learnt from Late Vd. G. K. Dave).

Todays topic for discussion:  Does cow's ghee increases HDL? any evidence based claim?

Vd. Ajay Pithia: There are some peer reviewed articles showing the effect of ghrita - Journal name- AYU, Year – 2010, April june , Pmc id - 3215354
they indicate - " Our previous research on Sprague-Dawley outbred rats, which serve as a model for the general population, showed no effect of 5 and 10% ghee-supplemented diets on serum cholesterol and triglycerides. However, in Fischer inbred rats, which serve as a model for genetic predisposition to diseases, results of our previous research showed an increase in serum total cholesterol and triglyceride levels when fed a 10% ghee-supplemented diet."
thus it mean nothing is nectar or poison.. ghrita is good rather best but depends on the condition of a person.. "purusham purusham vikshyam" this principle is unique and works everywhere.. we have to keep the things in our mind regarding - situation of a person, dose and time of ghee, digestion of particular, metabolism, his workout etc etc.

another article - comparison of cow and buffalo ghee
‘actually mono saturated fatty acids said to be good for CV disease as it decrease LDL and increase HDL..  (ghee contains 60% saturated, 20-25% mono unsaturated fatty acids)but when it comes to ghee the trans fats are culprit.. during process of ghee making hydrogenation (liquid in to solid fat) occurs, and trans fat formed’

Vd. Bhavesh Thakkar: Cow ghee is a good topic to discuss, few days back came across a research paper that suggests caow ghee can help reduce LDL and VLDL, though it has no effect on High Density Lipoproteins as per the study.
Love to read more on its effect on HDL

Todays topic for discussion:  Understanding of Cholesterol  according to #Ayurveda…

Group 1:
Dr. Arti parimal: Just have nagrvel pan (pippali leaf) with honey and cinnamon after meal

Vd. Prerak Shah: How to interpret cholesterol in Ayurveda? Meda dhatu? Kapha dosha? Or anything else?

Canada Dr. Nitin Shah: Each vital tissue when they are not wholesome that produces waste as Mala of that particular tissue. Cholesterol I believe is Mala of Meda Dhatu

Dr. Rajnish  -Chindwada: Dhamni pratichay
Vd. Ajay Pithia: Being a dr.  Or vaidya, we deal with health issues and THE cholesterol is proven as enemy of mankind now a days willingly or unwillingly...  Lipids are very essential in human body as every cell wall is made up of biphospholipid layer while ayurveda said - snehomayam ayam purush...
Human is nothing but the lipids... For that many drugs are given in the form of sneh i. e.  Lipids like ghrita,  taila etc. So the drug become homogenous for human body...  Again blood brain barrier do not permit any other media than lipid to enter the system...  So it is a form of dhatu...  Dhatu means basic component of human body and if it creates morbidity it becomes mala (not purish mutra sweda)

Canada Nitin Shah: If Dhatu is unwholesome it produces Waste product as Mala of that particular tissue. Please refer texts. Malas are not just 3. Wholesome tissues produces accessory tissue also

Group 2:
Dr. Dipak Shirude (Jalgaon): Prolonged use of any guggulukalpa along with aahaar maryada and regular vyayam proved useful . as per my experience .

Group 3:
Chile - Maria Pia: It's due to a kapha-increasing diet and low but ha and jathara agi, lak of excercise, sedentary Job, kapha prakruti, heredity and hypothyroidism. treatment is to follow a kapha soothing diet, excercise, garlic and onion in cooking, drink copper water, hot water and honey every morning before breakfast and chitrak, chandra prahba, arogya vardhini and lasunadi

Argentina Dr. Fany Rosman: Today lot of vata and pitta prakruti following their doshic dietary advices still have high colesterol levels. I recommend  a Tea spoon of each of the following  flax, fenugreek and chia seeds. This plus fish oil capsules increase HDL levels

Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Actually people know more about bad sides of cholesterol than its good sides.
Without cholesterol life is not possible.  Cholesterol makes cell membrane, vita D,   steroid hormones.. Susruta says man is made up of  Sneha(fat). Prana(vitality- Vita A,D,E,K) is mainly made up of fat(fat soluble). Recommended daily dose of cholesterol- 300 mg..1 egg = 250 mg cholesterol... If we don't eat cholesterol, still body make cholesterol in cells by HMG CoA Reductase (station works on this enzyme).
As we know cholesterol is one of main component of bile. Hepatocyte makes 1 litre bile per day.. Bile go into GI tract through Bile duct.. In GI tract after saponification and emulsification , cholesterol reabsorb through  GI tract and reach back into liver through portal vein. This cycle called entero hepatic circulation. In modern  ,there drug called Sequestrin (cholestyramine) bind cholesterol and excreted into stool, and enterohepatic circulation is broken down, subsequently hepatocyte will get cholesterols from general circulation ,eventually cholesterol will decreased in general circulation... All fibre containing article also work like sequestrin..In Ayurveda there are many herbs that breaks enterohepatic circulation... Amalaki (goose berry) have lot of fibre decrease cholesterols... Barley have both soluble and insoluble fibre, soluble fibre prevent glucose absorption in GI Tract, while insoluble fibre  break entero hepatic cycle of cholesterol, so barley reduces blood sugar as well as cholesterols.... Charak has given cardio beneficial(hridya) herbs those have same effect like sequestrin with other good effects(anti oxident...) ….. Cardio tonic herbs…..In kaphaj type of heart disease (kaphaj grid Roga) charaka has given Chyavan prasha, shilajeet, agastya haritaki(containing lot of barley)... Here kaphaj HridRoga(heart disease) mean heart disease due to hyper cholesterolemia.. There are some ref regarding these.. Sir. In Ayurveda , I think we correlate cholesterol, more with Kapha dosha and less with medo dhatu .. Why lipid profile  is not done in children? ...In children all body cells are in G1 phase(cell cycle), in this phase cells are in growing condition where cholesterols is much needed...so in pediatrics we usually not seen lipid profile... This same thing Susruta has said very simple way in description of Navneet(butter). SUsruta says butter is especially beneficial for children, because of their condition of cell cycle..

Vd. Prerak Shah : Bravo…Dr. Pankaj…Salute

Dr. Susana Valdes (Chile): Cholesterol is necesary to body for lubrication, nourishment, sex hormones, fuel and steroids and it is related with meda dhatu. High cholesterol could be becouse of imbalance of bhuta agni, one function of liver is to process and store meda dhatu and is bhuta agni who stimulates meda agni to nourish meda dhatu. So, if there is an imbalance, cholesterol could increases. Sometimes, if there is an increase of ojas, and it is not fully processed (increased kapha can increase ojas and this raw ojas can in turn increase kapha), could be also an increase of cholesterol.

Group 4:
Vd. Nisha Thakkar : Medohar vidangadi lauh, arogyavardhini ras, Cap. cholesterol care gives best results

Vd. Neha dipam: Hyper lipidemia is corelate with medodosha. And so many drugs are beneficial in this
Because all lipid are important and different role. LDL / HDL cholesterol, triglyceride all…..Charak sitrasthan 23 santarpan jany roga  vyoshadi sakthu givese good result….Gaumutra haritaki, lasuna,  puskarmula, hinguvadi churn all are beneficial.  Specialy when triglyceride is high langhan is required-
Hot water….. Jatharangi and dhatvagni both are involved in hyperlipidemia, Virechan gives best result,  Pure cow ghee is useful to increase HDL cholesterol and its good for heart….Not only kapha dosha tridosha is involed

Vd Ami Mehta: Lahsun kshirpak is also give good result in cholesterol

Group 5:
Vd. Kinshuk Hirpara: (1.) Arjuna + kravyad  (2.) Aarogyavardhini …….Lifestyle management , Less salt
Less spices, No junk food, Fresh food

Vd. Nikul Thakkar -Palanpur: Specially Suryanamaskar and Empty stomach walking.  Kardiyamryt Ark gives good result

Vd. Milan Prajapati: I think it may be included in med dhatu

Vd. Dhruti Kagrana: High Cholesterol level:-  Tulsi ,  Atasi, is useful..
Cholesterol has four main functions:-
- Contributes to the structure of cell walls  - Makes up digestive bile acids in the intestine - Allows the body to produce vitamin D -  Enables the body to make certain hormones.
So, as per my understanding we interpret cholesterol in Ayurveda with Kapha dosha!!

USA Dinesh Pandya: An unbalanced Kapha lies at the root of excess production of cholesterol in the body. To lower cholesterol naturally, Ayurveda recommends balancing Kapha dosha with dietary recommendations that will balance the overall fat metabolism

Vd. Sunil Suthar : Improper digestion power creates aam condition , which we all know very well , these nothing but free radicals and toxins which restore different part of the body as fat deposited at abd, buttocks, lipoma, etc ….The same situation being started in arteries , metabolic dis functioning accumulate as cholesterol in arteries , and reduces elasticity of artery wall, thats why hyper tension occurs and  this vitiated kapha dosha, disturbed med dhatwagni, and it is  also one of the cause of GB stone !  Here We should balance proper dietary schedule , avoid spicy ,oily , junk food , adhyashan !
Here one chikitsa sutra we can apply as "langhanam param aushdham ", Arogya vardhini vati ,
Gau mutra haritaki, medohar vidangadi loha, yograj gugglu, chandra prabhavati are drug of choice to reduce cholesterol and maintain proper function of digestive system !

Vd. Jignesh Thakkar Bhuj : In Maharashtra doctors are usin OVADI GUGGUL for cholesterol. i found good results with it.  OVA=AJWAIN

Vd. Piyush Prajapati Palanpur: Yes.. ova mean khurasani ajwain.. it has good result to maintain cholesterol

Shri Minoo parabia: Cholesterol is finally officially removed from Naughty List
The US government has finally accepted that cholesterol is not a 'nutrient of concern', doing a U-turn on their warnings
In the meantime of 40 years US Drug Industry in connivance with Health Department made over 1.5 trillion US Dollars by selling cholestrol lowering drugs. This fear probably caused death of a million gulliable citizen who believe the US drug industry. (My comment)
 By Nikki Barr

Cholesterol has been on the "naughty" list of nutrients for nearly 40 years, with health officials warning us to stay away from high-cholesterol foods since the 1970s to avoid heart disease and clogged arteries.
"Full-fat dairy products and advocados are high in good fats."
But US officials have finally given the green light for a U-turn on previous warnings, which means eggs, butter, full-fat dairy products, nuts, coconut oil and meat have now been classified as "safe" and have been officially removed from the "nutrients of concern" list.
The US Department of Agriculture, which is responsible for updating the guidelines every five years, stated in its findings for 2015: "Previously, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommended that cholesterol intake be limited to no more than 300 mg/day.
"The 2015 DGAC will not bring forward this recommendation because available evidence shows no appreciable relationship between consumption of dietary cholesterol and serum (blood) cholesterol, consistent with the AHA/ACC (American Heart Association / American College of Cardiology) report.
"Cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern for overconsumption."
"Eggs are no longer on the 'naughty list'. "
The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee will, in response, no longer warn people against eating high-cholesterol foods and will instead focus on sugar as the main substance of dietary concern.
The 70s, 80s and 90s were the 'non fat' years, with the government warning people to limit the amount of high-cholersterol foods in their diets to avoid heart disease and strokes.
But nutritionists and scientists have long been campaigning for the U-turn, which started with introducing "good cholesterols" back into the 'safe zone'.
US cardiologist Dr Steven Nissen said: "It's the right decision. We got the dietary guidelines wrong. They've been wrong for decades."
He esitmated that about 20 per cent of cholesterol levels in your blood come from your diet, which means the rest is produced by your liver and is actually needed by the body.
Dr Chris Masterjohn added:“Since we cannot possibly eat enough cholesterol to use for our bodies’ daily functions, our bodies make their own.
"When we eat more foods rich in this compound, our bodies make less. If we deprive ourselves of foods high in cholesterol - such as eggs, butter, and liver - our body revs up its cholesterol synthesis."
"Nuts were previously thought to contain too much cholesterol."
Sugar has now been identified as the "worst" food culprit for health problems, with GPs now focusing on weaning patients off the sweet stuff.
Cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra, who works with group Action On Sugar, says a clamp-down on the food industry is next.
He said: "It's very clear that added sugar has absolutely no nutritional value whatsoever and, contrary to what the food industry want you to believe, the body doesn't require any carbohydrate for energy from added sugar.
"And we know the food industry have been spiking our food with added sugars. We also know that carbohydrates and particularly refined carbohydrates - so carbohydrates that lack fibre, sugar being one of them - have the biggest impact on insulin in terms of surges of insulin in our body. And insulin is a fat storing hormone." So, in summary, ditch your skinny latte for a full-fat latte and get some avocados down you.

The Real Truth about Cholesterol
The majority of the cholesterol in you is produced by your liver. Your brain is primarily made up from cholesterol.  It is essential for nerve cells to function. Cholesterol is the basis for the creation of all the steroid hormones, including estrogen, testosterone, and corticosteroids.  High cholesterol in the body is a clear indication which shows the liver of the individual is in good health.
Dr. George V. Mann M.D. associate director of the Framingham study for the  incidence and prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its risk factors states: "Saturated fats and cholesterol in the diet are not the cause of coronary heart disease. That myth is the greatest deception of the century, perhaps of any century"

Cholesterol is the biggest medical scam of all time.
There is no such thing as bad Cholesterol!  Men of science have abandoned truth for money. Attempting to control cholesterol is a very, very dangerous practice that occurs in every hospital and medical clinic daily.
           By Ron Rosedale, MD

"Statin Drugs Actually Increase Heart Disease"
So you can stop trying to change your Cholesterol level. Studies prove beyond a doubt, cholesterol doesn't cause heart disease and it won't stop a heart attack.  The majority of people that have heart attacks have normal cholesterol levels.

THE GREAT CHOLESTEROL SCAM
By K.L. Carlson, MBA
Cholesterol guidelines have been created to increase pharmaceutical profits, not to improve peoples’ health.  I know from my experience as a pharmaceutical sales representative for a statin drug.  We were trained to emphasize to physicians the new lower LDL guidelines that were ostensibly created by health experts. The truth is the majority of the experts who created the lower guidelines have multiple financial ties to pharmaceutical companies.  One expert was found to have ties to ten drug firms
OUR BODY NEEDS 950 mg OF CHOLESTEROL FOR DAILY METABOLISM AND  THE LIVER IS THE MAIN PRODUCER. ONLY 15% OF CHOLESTEROL IS BEING  DONATED BY THE FOOD WE EAT.  If the fat content is less in our food we eat, our liver Got to work more to maintain the level at 950 mg.  If the cholesterol level is high in our body, it shows the liver is working perfect.  Experts say that there is nothing like LDL or HDL.
…………..Cholesterol is not found to create block any where in human body.  Why does it create block only in heart, where as calcium sediments create
Block all over the body …... for example kidney, pancreas. Urinary bladder, gall bladder etc etc

JNC VIII 2014 has also relaxed the BP target. Let live simple and stress free

Germany Helga Fuchs: Thank you very much Dr. Manoo h. Parabia, oh my god, what a blessing is Ayurveda

Shri Minoo parabia: Yes. The predictions and theories advocated 3000years back are still holding strong. What a knowledge system!

Dr. Devesh Kumar: Yes our system of medicine is great

Vd. Jignesh Thakkar: क्षीरघृताभ्यासो रसायनानाम्। Habit of taking ghee and milk regularly is good for longetivity.

Bunty Gandhi: Yup...But now a days people are afraid of ghee..

Germany Helga Fuchs: This must not be. But knowing must be, when and how ghee or/and milk are giving benefits. Konzept of Ayurveda to looking of body and mind is the real gift. Schoolmedicine are working many in same way with Do's and Don'ts, as Ayurveda, but she miss the deeper knowlege of Rasa, Veerya and Vipaka, Prabhava, Agni. So no real way is given.
