#Nail examination...nail care....nail diseases and it's management with #Ayurveda

Prerak Shah:  Nail examination........nail care.......nail diseases and it's management
In ayurveda nail is considered as mala of Asthi dhatu(bone)...so nail is rapidly grow when there is decreased agni of asthi dhatu...
What the colour of nails indicates in various diseases or how u diagnose disease by nail colours
+91 98245 75270: I have treated few cases of onychomycosis. Patient was advised to deep her fingers in solution made by tankan and water. Internal medicines were
1)arogyavardhini 2)gandhak rasayan 3)panchtikt ghrut guggulu. Results are excellent.
Tankan bhasma is best topical remedy for nail disorders
Manhar Prajapati vd: Due to seat of Asthi Dahtu need to concern as to have inernal snehan also. internal snehan good work in brittle nail
+91 98249 64060: In kunakha we can give sarjarasa malahar for external application. Jalaukavacharan(leech) also helpful in kunakha. It is mentioned in sushrut chikitsa.
Su.chi.20.9-10
Prerak Shah: Nails bluish - check oxygen saturation level. Nails- yellowish - liver diseases. Pittaj vyadhi. If red swollen inflamme and tender - infection. If repeated attacks of paronchia- indicates acidic condition of body. Prediabetic phase. The best treatment for Paronchia / Kunakh which i hv seen work is an allomed. Terbenafin cream external 6 months usage minimum. But for prevention the best treatment is Maintaining body pH by proper diet. White spots - deficiency of phospherus and protein. Increase protein intake.
+91 98251 34422: It is either a soap allergy with secondary fungus or bacterial infection or straight away a fungus infection.
My childhood memories and subsequent trials proved Tridax leaves excellent, even on athletes foot.
Mahamanjishthadi kadha is wonderful. Occasional application of snuff also has proved effective.
White spots on nails speak well. Let me learn through experts views.
Vaidya Deepak Shirude Jalgaon : Avagaah is best resulting with pure and warm sesame oil for 10 to 15 minutes especially in the vaat kaal. Trifala guggulu, Pravalpanchamrit, Laghusutshekhar are some commonly used kalpaas by me in various patients, obtaining satisfactory results in a reasonably short period.
Asthi and hence nails are seat of vaat, alike skin. Generally when there is no infectious or we can say puy or paak situation, the above strategy works very well. In kapha pitta doshik involvement, we can change the strategy by adding kalpaas containing kanchanaar guggulu, aarogyavardhini, sukshma trifala etc.
White spots and lines/wrinkles on nails show some deficiency. We have to find out it clinically and then can proceed better.Nails, on good deep observation by a skillful vaidya, reveal constitution as well as psychology of the patient. This is very useful to guide the patient for his illness.
Vd. Tapan : I myself is a sufferer of In drawing of toe nail. It's a painful increase of nail inside nail bed. Surgery is advised but it reoccurs.

(Photo) Ingrowing Nails – Dr. Chirag
+91 98251 34422:  Basically it is the covering and hardening of surrounding tissues and the subsequent collection of dirt create painful problem. Immerse foot in warm water twice a day followed by smearing of camphor containing castor oil or cover it with crushed leaves of Samudrasosh. When tissue gets softer skilfully remove nail from underneath. If infection has subsided; there will not be any pain. During bath use toothbrush to clean foot nails.
Pankaj vd: In ayurveda nail is considered as mala of Asthi dhatu(bone)...so nail is rapidly grow when there is decreased agni of asthi dhatu...
+91 98228 24590: some vyadhi purvarupa nail & hair growth mentioned (rajayakshma & prameha) whats logic behind this?
Pankaj vd: Dhatvagnimandhya
+91 98228 24590: but why only asthi dhatu vrudhi not rakta mamsa?
Pankaj vd: Nail is mala of asthi dhatu..there is also increased level of other mala of remaining dhatus..read prameha and rajyaxma purvarupa..
Spoon shaped nail(and brittle)-koilonychia is seen in iron deficiency anmia..so  look for iron level
+54 9 11 4164-7851: Nail piting look psoriasis arthritis. This is pitting irregular is a sign of psoriasis
Granuloma piogeno or botriomicoma. Hiperpigmentation could be normal con fototipo
+91 94234 88753: || Ingrowing nails ||
Some possible practical inputs :
1. Ingrowing nails must be cut skilfully as round as possible. (At corners especially. It is possible. Self experience.)
2. Tail avagaah will prove fruitful as the encroaching nail is outcome of vaat dushti. (My hypothesis.)
3. Vaat pacifying and anulomak diet.
4. Sarvaang abhyangam. (At least once in a week.)
5. If the patient is obese, management of obesity.
+91 98255 99535: Snehan -  internal and external both way , swedna- avgah .. And orally calcium and agnivardhak like laghu vasant malti yog-- or any kharpar-zinc yog are very useful.
Kirit Yagnik -I have got solution of ingrowing toe nails. I am posting the pics of my both toes.
Since last 35 years (Approx.), I cut the nails of my toes in shape. So, the ends of the nails remain long and the nails remain in a slightly flat. Cutting nails in this style would not take curve from the ends. Hence, it would not grow inside.

Both the pics above are of right and left toe

+91 94265 25490: Panchtikt grut guggulu as a Ghrut or tablet gives good result. Application of Shatdhaut Ghrut in Psoriatic nail with madumeha
+91 84609 04034: Nail biting: its telling all about excessive vata in system.. Hence its typical symptom of high anxiety,  fear, worry, stress,  nervousness etc. mental illness...its all of which due to vata imbalance in CNS  ...it may be acute or chronic issue so treat according....
White spots nail : it’s very common problem all among individuals...but issue depend upon one time occurrence or reoccurring ....  One time occurrence is just due to trauma to that part of nail only........… &  Reoccurrence indicates deficiency of calcium,  zinc,  magnesium in body but sometime its due to mal absorption,  poor diet,  inflammation of GI track , chronic loose stool, excessive toxins in colon
(Photo) (White spots.. nails)
Lunula (large moon shape whitish patch) : if it present in thumb or pinky finger its indicate strong healthy fire in system so individual is having pitta prakruri... Moon shape is larger in thumb only its bit smaller with respective fingers.... if whole nail become whitish except bit small top area of nail then its indicate liver Disease.
(Photo) (Lunula)
We can also defined nail by lining like horizontal or longitudinal. In longitudinal lines : u can find either very mild line or deeper lines. Mild lines are hard to find in natural light.
Deeper line indicates poor indigestion, mal absorption, toxication, GI disturbance....
Its due to vishama agni in vatta,  mandagni in kapha,  trikshnagni in pitta
Nail pariksha is only one piece of puzzle so other analysis must require in order establishing actual cause of Disease.
(Photo)  ( Dark line beneath the nail, It must be investigated because ? Melanoma-most dangerous type of skin cancer)
(Photo) ( Pale nails : ?anemia, ?congestive heart failure, ??liver disease, ?malnutrition)
+91 98988 18482: 1) the skin around my nails comes out & disturbs me. When I pull them out, it pains & bleeds a bit. What could it be? Does it indicate any kind of deficiency of vitamins or minerals?
2) My left leg's little finger's nail turns black frequently. ???
I've heard that nails turn brittle in deficiency of Vit. A
+91 99794 65069: The internal corner of (the round portion), if remains white it could be classified as a disease..  I understand that this is due to lack of calcium content.  Is it true?  What is remedy or otherwise?
+91 95379 40272: in kunakh instead of tankan wash apply tankan paste as a lepa
+91 98691 61041: Nails bluish - check oxygen saturation level . Nails- yellowish - liver diseases. Pittaj vyadhi. If red swollen inflame and tender - infection. If repeated attacks of paronchia- indicates acidic condition of body. Prediabetic phase.
The best treatment for Paronchia / Kunakh which I have seen work is an allopath medicine. Terbenafin cream external 6 months usage minimum. But for prevention the best treatment is Maintaining body pH by proper diet.
White spots - deficiency of phospherus and protein. Increase protein intake.
Shri Minoo Parabia:
It is either a soap allergy with secondary fungus or bacterial infection or straight away a fungus infection. My childhood memories and subsequent trials proved Tridax leaves excellent, even on athletes foot.  Mahamanjishthadi kadha is wonderful. Occasional application  of snuff also has proved effective. White spots on nails speak well. Let me learn through experts views
+91 98223 11565:  I would add some castor oil and turmeric locally scrubbed off with rough jwari flour on nails daily for good results.
Vd Dhruti Bhatt : according to Ayurved we should do Dashvidh pariksha. we can get idea what kind of disease patient have  from nail examination
Blue Black Nails: Hematoma below nail, cytotoxic drugs, pseudomonas infection, malignant below nails. Green Nail: Pseudomonas infection. Brown colour: Cigarette smoking,Potassium Permanente solution, chronic renal disease, psoriasis, collagen disease, bacterial endocarditis, pigmented benign naevil.Yellowish colour: Ischemia, Fungus, psoriasis. White colour: Hypoalbuminia in cirrhosis. renal failure, cytotoxic drugs, arsenic poisoning ,darier' s disease. Red half moons: congestive cardiac failure. Blue half moon: Hepatolenticular degeneration. Blue nail: Mepacrine.
I had seen patient with spoon shape nails in Anaemia. We should take proper history and give medicines to patient it will be more beneficial. In Ruksh nails or Nistej nails I give massage of Navnit (white butter) or cow ghee. Good result
Dr. Hardik Kalal : Nail is one part of human body which can be easily inspected and palpable.
Abnormal nail is indicate something wrong which is already done any abnormality in " Ras to Asthi Dhatu "
one Hypothesis in my mind:-
Ruksha Nakha(Dry nail):-so possible  Kvachit Rukshata(Dryness) in Ras to Asthi Dhatu...same like for sphutit(crack nail) , Bindu yukta (Any spot on nail), Rekha yukta(Any line on nail)...etc
Pitta varn nakha(yellowish nail) :- so possible kvachit pitta varnata(yellowish discolouration) in Ras to Asthi Dhatu..same like shyav(light black),krushna(black),shvet(white) discolouration ...etc
Ati alpakalin nakh vruddhi(speedy growth of nail):- so possible..become the prashad ansh(pure part of dhatu) very less and the  kitta ansh(waste  part of dhatu) increase in Ras to  Asthi Dhatu.
Prerak Shah: Can anyone suggest general food/ herb for good nails?
+49 173 3271419: Fresh nutrient food, nuts, minerals, fruits. Depend on agni. Dinacharya, life habits are important to build healty dhatu. If we have healty dhatu, here asthi, and majja should be good, we have healthy mala. Heavy pressure or chemicals also can create problems in nails by healthy lifestyle from outside.
+91 90338 41843: Asthipachak (Gudichi, aamlaki and musta) is best for any type of asthi dhatu

+91 98255 99535: Poor hygiene , carelessness, avoid about nail care , reactions of nail polish  or other chemicals ,  are most factors for nail disorders ..
+91 98251 34422: I vouchsafe Helga. Portulaca Luni ni bhaji, Anantmool, Moringa leaves spinach, Suran are good as food.
Prerak Shah: One more question about nail can we have any chemical free, herbal or Ayurvedic nail polish?
+49 173 3271419: Sesamöl daily, here we have special bio nailoil with apriconut oil and sanddorn oil or many others, for daily massage. Most used by Ladies who use naillaquer and this chemical coloring makes the nails dry. We also have naillaquer to make the nails strong and hard by weakly nails. But however, in this case, real help comes only from inside, but will be a little help.

Next topic for discussion:  Frozen shoulder or shoulder pain and restricted movements....#ayurvedic approach...
Dr. Mahavir Patil: "avabahuk"
Dr. Prerak Shah: Yes...Frozen shoulder is known as 'avabahuk' in ayurveda...
Dr. J. T. Contractor Herbal Therapist: Aqua therapy gives optimum results, hot water fomentation for 20 minutes on painful part & on spinal cord scull to tail, twice daily, wipe off with towel, gentle massage with pre-heated til oil made with jaifal (nutmeg) extract
Dr. Mahavir Patil: why jaifal (nutmeg)...
Dr. J. T. Contractor Herbal Therapist: Small pieces of Jaifal to be boiled in pure til oil until jaifal turn brown black, filter it to store in glass bottle, jaifal & til oil releases muscle fibers with hot water fomentation.
Dr. Mahavir Patil: but jaiphal is "stambhak". i want to know, by which gunna ,it act as musle relaxtant?
Dr. Madhuri Patil Chaudhari: I have used only Jaiphal with Dry Ginger (lepana) for migrain and trauma-induced headaches with good results.  In Avbahuk ? May be because it is vedanasthapak-  reducing pain related to nerves
Supra19: Dr. Can u plz tell me how, how much and when to take jaifal and ginger…For migrain
Dr. Madhuri Patil Chaudhari: A tsp.of both powders mixed with warm water. Applied when warm. Or Pishtan ( making paste) by rubbing in circles 1/2 cms piece on Sahan ( patla type marbale or granite stone) with very little and warm water. It is for extetnal application on forehead everyday @bedtime.
Vd. Kundan Gadhavi: in frozen shoulder upanah gives verygood results.in both  diabetic or non diabetics.as frozen shoulder is most commonly seen in pt with diabetes
Vd.vimalben Anand: Agnikarma shows good results in avabahuk….Nasya therapy can be done in avabahuk with any vatshamak oil…. Siravedh raktamokshana is also indicated in avabahuk, and if the posture of patient is incorrect, then first try to correct the posture by the yoga with the proper breathing
Dr. Prerak Shah: "pain and restriction of shoulder movement" leaves many questions:   Is it bone related? Joint related? Muscle related? Ligament related? Or neurology related? Is it due to degeneration? Due to postural problem? Due to trauma? Or injury? For how long Pain remains? Constant or only with the movements? Is it associated with inflammation or not? Is it referred pain or not? Does pain radiates from shoulder to any part or organ? Or does pain radiates from any part to shoulder?  If I suggest massage and if the condition is aamavata or trauma - fracture etc, then it will increase and can be more serious condition.
Dr. Dipak shirude: I have experience of some patients presenting as frozen shoulder but finally diagnosed cardiac illness ( blockages ) and got relieved after successful treatment of heart.
Vd. Jayesh Thakkar: Frozen Shoulder or Avabahuka can be due to Diabetes, cervical disease, shoulder injury, even shoulder surgery or other causes...common symptoms are pain-stiffness, decrease motion of shoulder...as per scenario we see...cala guna kshaya...manda, stabdha guna vriddhi...so any treatment which is vata-kapha hara & usna and is as per nidaan/cause helps……In my clinical experience have found lepa or potli seka with usna dravya helpful. Simple poultice of yellow sarso (pilli rai) have found to be very useful & economical in our apaan desa of Bengal. From my south experience have found Karpasthyadi Taila nasya very very helpful in high dose of 8drps. Abha/Trayodasang Guggul is good. Beside this supported  exercise, controlling sugar in DM and following anti Vata diet-lifestyle helps.
Dr.Surendra Davanagere: Panchamruthaloha gugulu is also useful in this condition
Canada Nitin Shah: I myself was victim of Tenosynovitis of this area and treated with Vishgarbha oil application, followed by seating in a steam chamber for 10-15 minutes for a week and regular practices of neck rotation, shoulder rotation, garudasana, gomukhasana and now have full shoulder moment. Diabetics are more prone to this condition and yes, rule out the other causes.
Satyen: Frozen shoulder is caused due to vatta disorder?  Will consuming dry ginger useful?
Dr. Suyog Kulkarni: In allopathy , now a days sublingual pain killers are given to avoid gastritis as well as for quick action. Can we think of such route for our medicines ? As far as I know  Hemagarbha , Sootshekhar matra are examples of such route.
Dr. Madhuri Patil Chaudhari:  'Lehya' can be said to be sublingual route of admiistration.
Dr. Arun Tiwari: Manyastambh, Grivastambh, vishvachi and Avbahuk are vataj diseases. In Manyastambh involves shleshma. In Chakradatt Mash ,kevach and Bala in form of decoction use three months  for avbahuk and vishvachi.
Dr. Hardikchandra Kalal: We should help physiotherapy  with Ayurved for treatment of avbahuk (frozen shoulder). Its give us speedy result. According to i Ayurved it is yuktikrut vyayam..Specially in frozen shoulder..ll
Vd. Dhruti Nirav Bhatt: In Avabahuk  (Frozen shoulder) Nasya, Nadiswed and Physiotherapy gives result. Vishtindukvati  Dipan pachan aushadh.Pipplimool churna, sunti churna
Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Apbahuka is a major disease come across with daily practise. Vitiated vata situated at amsamoola(shoulder girdle) causes loss of motor activities or difficulty in movements of hand and wasting of associated muscle...In case of local symptoms take important place , as compared to general symptoms: 1) Bahupraspanda hara: loss/ impaired/ difficult movement of upper limb    2) Amsabandhana shosha: muscle wasting of shoulder girdle   3) shoola: painful shoulder
According to modern:  1) gradual onset of shoulder stiffness  2) pain manifest after significant shoulder range of movement lost   3) pain well localized to rotator cuff  4) pain inferes with sleep  5) pain radiation into deltoid and anterior arm.
Inspection:- 1) pt holds arm protectively at side  2) deltoid and supraspinotous atrophy..
There are are some clinical conditions of modern science which may be compared with that of apabahuka:    1) peri arthritis or frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis
2) sub acromial or sub deltoid bursitis 3) lesion of the rotatory cuff  4) brachial plexus neuropathy  5) OA of shoulder joint  6) incomplete rupture of  supraspinatous tendon  7) bicipital tendinitis  8) painful shoulder...
Management of apabahuka is achieved by adopting the treatment measures of vatavyadhi in general and specific treatment for apabahuka...  1) restricted movement with muscle wasting -- Use various tails, nasya, consume ghee soon after having meal, sasti shali pinda swedana, jambeer pinda swedana  2) pain full restricted movement without wasting--- use various gugglu , swedana, rasa ashaudhi...
Shanku chirag: In some case patient having psychological  pressure towards responsibility, and become over concern about responsibility and that leads to freeze the shoulder (Always responsibility we carry on shoulder) so, counseling of the patient will help if we succeed to transfer alertness to relaxation
Dr. Arun Tiwari:
Dr. J. T. Contractor Herbal Therapist: Pl gv English name or Hindi
Prof. Siddharth Panchal- L J Pharmacy: Yellow looks methi (trigonela foenum gracum) seeds, Black-kalijiri (vernonia anthelmintica) , Reddish- looks lepidium and Brown is Ajvain
Supra16: what is this recipe and benefits? Pls share
Vd Charu Trivedi: Its chaturbjj
Vd. Ritaben Nadiad: Methi , asheriyo , kalijiri and ajmo….It is usefull in all type vataj pain
Surat Vd Mukul Patel: Regarding  frozen  shoulder,  I think  we are missing  out  something  important.  This condition  is associated  with Certain  systemic  diseases.   For example ,  a significant  number of patients  suffering  from  frozen  shoulder  are seen to be suffering  from diabetes  or hypothyroidism.….Sometimes  it so happens that the diagnosis  of these major disease  is done when a patient comes  to the clinician. …….Besides,  this is a self limiting condition.   In the first phase there is pain n rigidity,  after 6to 10months the pain intensity  subsides while the rigidity /restriction  in movement remains,  which decreases after some months.   Physiotherapy does help. Ayurveda   prescribes swimming.   Effectiveness of drugs (any drugs) is  questionable,  it is a matter which  research,  since pain vanishes   by itself after some months.   This is the natural course of the  diseases.
Dr. Prerak Shah: I agree. This is our western thinking process, that on hearing of the symptom or complain, we start recommending medicines, without going in the depth of diagnosis. For some extent it might be helpful but for in longer run it may be harmful for Ayurveda
Dr. Ravindra Upadhyay: Dhanvantara tailam. massage, followed by Nadisweda of Dashmoolkwatha, Mahayograj Guggul 2 tds, Ekang vir ras,  1tds,  Dashmool kwatha, 60 ml twice. Avoid. Curds, Tomato, freezed food, physiotherapy.
Rajal shukla: Pain and swelling of any area of body….Gugal, erandmool , Punarnava , Patala. Bhoy aambali Bhoy ringani gokharu, Galo satva, Bhavna - Dashmool qwath
OPD Vd Daxa Patel: Systematic nasya is best treatment of frozen shoulder
Vd. Gaurang darji: Restriction of any joint should be due to vaayu..So any vaat nashak treatment should be given...Abhyang+swedan local along with matra basti...Vish tinduk vati…Palsinuron......Kshir bala tail capsules..Or sneh paan…Agnikarm can give dramatic result…Exercise daily minimum 25-30 min…In physio they give some local shock therapy it also works...Or baajri upnah..or patra pind swed/ upnaah...
Vaat nashak diet..Shigru soup...Udad daal...Garam paani no shek...
IPR Chhayaben: So many medicine !! Pl say one or two.. People like us,  non medico n patient,  need specific thing..
Gaurang darji: Its due to various type of condition of disease...For non medico..Daily massage, steam, and exercise is advisable...
Dr. Prerak Shah: There is no short cut. We don't have pain killers like western medicine. Pt need to go personally with Ayu doc to get final diagnosis and final treatment suggestions.
Dr. Ravindra Upadhyay: treatment varies from pt to pt, pt not having any movement of the shoulder with uncontrolled DM, needs to control sugar first, post traumatic immobillisation of the jt gives rise to frozen shoulder, needs to mobilise it regularly, pain is overcome with regular passive rhythmic movement of the affected and non affected joints, drugs alone whether Ayurvedic, Allopathic, Homeopathic alone can not give desired results.
Vd. Krup Vasavada: For Frozen Shoulder Agnikarma has shown Wonderful results within short time ....For Pain and Stiffness It's the Best treatment ....
Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: If pain is due to Nerve problem then use ashwagandha and various oil in abhayanga and internally
Vd. nikul patel: Abyang swedan is 10 times more faster than Physiotherapy treatment.. truly experience in lots of patients
Shri Minoo parabia: We recommend Aswagandha 2tds for a month
Vd. Dipam Tripathi: Ashwagandha...good….Patrpind swed is also work v.good..Nasya ..also good
Dr Dipak Shirude: || Frozen shoulder || Find of cause is also very important for a successful chikitsa. If someone is typing and typing for whatsapp ( and that too without any benefit ), and a Vaidya is providing him best treatment, it is difficult to cure him. The above was just an example. There are so many things in frozen shoulder like driving faulty posture, work habits etc…….The prognosis and treatment depends on the exact site of sthaan-sanshray. ……If the vaat is resided into the superficial places of the shoulder joint ( upto skin and musculature ), we can surely cure the ailment within seconds by Agnikarma and that too for permanent. ……..But, although it is rare, if the vaat dosha is sited deep into the bony structures and ligaments stuck to bones, and it has disturbed the anatomy of the joint like necrosis or something like that, it becomes difficult to cure with Agnikarma. This situation needs ample efforts. ……..Snehan swedan, especially Rooksha swed by sand or crude salt pottali……Patrapottali including castor oil and annalepam also better option in some difficult cases……Nasya with warm ksheerbala or plain sesame oil, done regularly is useful to prevent and cure as well as to avoid recurrence i.e. apunarbhav……Regular and specific Vyaayaam i.e. physiotherapy…..Asthiposhak as well as aampaachak internal medicines are required…..Oils having antispasmodic action are better. Prasaranyaadi quath is worth to mention in this post.
Vd. Kinshuk Hirpara: In frozen shoulder particularly massage with nirgundi oil or mahanarayan oil a bit warm,  is beneficial.  In medicine,  agnitundi vati is a very good option as pain reliever too. Rest for 5 days then light exercises preferred but it's upto patient's pain and other conditions
Vd. Kinshuk Hirpara: Yes, it might be just a symptom of vitiated Doshas. So its beneficial to go for deep history of the patient may be he might have simply history of having stale food (frozen type of) for long time. So all digestive system vitiated and bcz of that stiffness of different body parts can be occurred….Also observed in patients,  many patients of low blood pressure also having this prob of frozen shoulder. So line of treatment will be different.
Dr Dipak Shirude: I have experience of some patients presenting as frozen shoulder but finally diagnosed cardiac illness ( blockages ) and got relieved after successful treatment of heart.
Vd. Dipam Tripathi: AGnikarm gives wonder ful reault
Vd. Hardik J. Patel- MD: Patra pinda upanaha swedan with arka, eranda, nirgundi on shoulder joint if it has stiffness. Agnikarma with loha shalaka at tender point on shoulder joint if pain. …..In classical text there is nasya of Bruhatmasha Taila. …..According to charaka shada upakrama if stambha(stiffness) and shula (pain) than swedan upakram is best way to get relief in this type of condition.
Vd. Jignesh Thakkar: In any vat disease if we see before vat vyadhi vat gets vitated in kostha because of ruksha and katu nature of food .vegavrodh etc then after it spreads in body and where ever there is strotodusti(disturbed body chennel)it stays there and causes vat disease. So we should use ….1)pachanam and anulomanam drug as base line treatment…..2)abhang swedanam….3)vatsamak drugs.........If still problem persist we should go fore basti karma….. If we use vatsamak oil etc directly it is not going to work ..Anulomanam and pachanam is base line treatment. then and then we should use guggulu preparations.
Vd. Dhruti Kagrana: Frozen Shoulder:
Wholesome Diet and habits:  1. Warm and unctuous food, 2. Proper and regular exercise, 3. Warm water bath loosens the stiffness., Include anti inflammatory spices such as turmeric and black pepper in diet.
Unwholesome Diet and habits: 1. Cold water bath, 2. Excess use of A/C rooms, 3. Excess of oily and fried food, 4. Heavy exercise, 5. Improper laying, sitting and sleeping position etc.
Bunty Gnadhi: I was benefited a lot with two seating of agnikarma for my shoulder pain. Doctor ahas diagnosed it as manyastambha. There was lot pain from neck to shoulder. 80% improvement in pain after 2 seating. I was surprised….Recently my uncle with shoulder pain and restricted movements, after allopathic treatment and physiotherapy practice in which actually pain increased, went to govt ayurvedic hospital where he was given basti karma with tila taila for 20 days…..With it he gets much benefited in restricted movement of shoulder. Pain is still there as he didnt took oral medicines he was given.

Next topic for discussion: Black or  Forbidden Rice (information shared by our member Mr. Sunil Sharma)
This year I encounter black rice in Ahmedabad IIM FOOD FESTIVAL …..I got few kgs with a very high cost of around 1000 per kg …..I tried lot of recipes particularly kheer with cow milk . It has been of great use to me for maintaining my well being .....
Black or  Forbidden Rice
Despite being less popular than brown rice or wild rice, black rice, known as forbidden rice, is an ancient grain that has even more impressive health benefits than most other closely related rice varieties.
Not only is it the type of rice that is richest in powerful disease-fighting antioxidants, but it also contains dietary fiber, anti-inflammatory properties, and has the ability to help stop the development of diabetes, cancer, heart disease and even weight gain.
Black rice has been eaten in regions of Asia for thousands of years; in fact for centuries it was reserved for only Chinese royalty. Today this type of rice is picking up in popularity and popping up in more health food stores across the US, Australia, and Europe, as people discover the numerous health benefits that whole grain black rice has to offer.
Black Rice / Forbidden Rice Nutrition
One serving of black or forbidden rice contains only around 160 calories, but offers a very high amount of flavanoid phytonutrients, a good source of important fiber, substantial mineral content including iron and copper, and even a good source of plant based protein. Just the outside hull of the grain has one of the highest levels of anthocyanin antioxidants of any food!
A one-half cup serving of cooked black rice, or about ¼ cup uncooked, contains approximately (in daily recommended values):
160 calories
1.5 grams of fat
34 grams of carbohydrates
2 grams of fiber
5 grams of protein
4% DV for iron
Wondering how black rice compares to other rice varieties? Here’s how the different types of rice differ in terms of nutrient content when we compare an 100gm serving of each kind:
Polished white rice – contains 6.8 protein, 1.2 iron, 0.6 fiber.
Brown rice: 7.9 protein, 2.2 iron, and 2.8 fiber.
Red rice: 7.0 protein, 5.5 iron, and 2.0 fiber.
Black rice: 8.5 protein, 3.5 iron, 4.9 fiber, and the highest amount of antioxidants of any rice variety.
You can see that black rice contains the highest amount of antioxidants, protein and dietary fiber of all rices varieties; plus black rice is also a good source of iron, which can be hard to get for plant based eaters who rely on grains and legumes for protein.
Health Benefits of Black Rice
Black Rice
1. Full of Antioxidants  - The bran hull of black rice, which is the outermost layer of the rice grain, contains one of the highest levels of the antioxidant anthocyanin found in any known food.
Black rice has a deep black or purple color, which is an indication of its high antioxidant properties, similarly to how deeply colored antioxidant berries like blueberries, raspberries, and cranberries appear.
Sources show that the anthocyanin content of black rice is higher than any other grain, including brown rice, red rice, red quinoa, or other colored whole grain varieties.
Anthocryanin has the ability to help prevent a myriad of common but serious illnesses according to numerous studies that have looked at the benefits of this antioxidant.
Anthocyanin antioxidants have been correlated with: helping to prevent cardiovascular disease, protecting against cancer that can be caused by free radical damage, improving brain function, reducing inflammation and more (1).
Nutrients are lost from whole grains when the outer layer, the hull and bran, are removed. Only whole grains which include all of their naturally occurring parts retain their antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and fiber. White rice, in addition to other refined grains, lose these beneficial properties during the milling process.
While whole grain brown rice and red rice also contain beneficial antioxidants, only black rice contains anthocyanin. Additionally, black rice also contains important antioxidant Vitamin E, which is useful in maintaining eye, skin, and immune health in addition to other important functions.

2. Protects Heart Health - Studies have shown that black rice decreases dangerous atherosclerotic plaque formation in the arteries, which is very important for keeping arteries clear and preventing heart attacks and stroke (2).
The specific anthocyanins phytochemicals found in black rice help to maintain healthy cholesterol levels by reducing total cholesterol, LDL “bad” cholesterol, and total triacylglycerol concentrations. These are 3 factors commonly involved in cardiovascular disease (3).
Considering how common heart disease is in almost every western developed nation today, this is one reason why consuming healing foods like black rice is so important.
Human Internal Anatomy Virtual Illustration
3. Can Help Detoxify the Body - Studies have demonstrated that consuming black rice can help to detox the body and cleanse the liver of harmful toxic build-up thanks to the rice’s high antioxidant content.
In a recent animal study, the antioxidant status of blood, the liver, and one of the main arteries, the aorta, were evaluated in rabbits that were either fed refined white rice or black rice.
Results showed that the rabbits fed black rice experienced less oxidative stress (also called free radical damage), contained more antioxidants in their blood, experienced detoxification in the liver, and also had reduced plaque build-up in the arteries (4).
The phytonutrients found in black rice help the body to reduce inflammation and to cleanse the body of harmful substances that can contribute to a wide range of conditions.
Stomach with gears, Indigestion heartburn
4. Good Source of Fiber Which  Improves Digestive Health  - Black rice and other whole grain rice varieties- like wild, red, or brown rices- have a similar amount of fiber, with about 2-3 grams per half cup serving. The fiber in black rice helps to prevent constipation, bloating, and other unwanted digestive symptoms. Fiber binds to waste and toxins within the digestive tract, helping to pull them out and to contribute to regular bowel function.
The dietary fiber found in black rice can also importantly help you to feel full after eating and to stay satisfied for a longer period of time between meals, potentially aiding in weight loss.
Studies have found that a diet high in dietary fiber from whole grain rice varieties is protective against obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and digestive disorders like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) (5). This is because fiber has the important job of clearing the body of toxins, helping to reduce inflammation and to clear the arteries as it removes waste and plague from the body (6) (7). Black rice can also help prevent or cure cases of diarrhea, since fiber adds bulk to your stool.
Gluten free Road Sign
5. A Naturally Gluten Free Grain  - Like other rice varieties, black rice naturally contains no gluten, the protein found in all wheat, rye, and barley products. It’s estimated that 1 in 7 people are sensitive to gluten- whether they are aware of it or not- but still test negative for Celiac Disease.
After eating something with gluten in it, those with a gluten sensitivity suffer many of the same symptoms as those with Celiac Disease (a confirmed allergy to gluten), including bloating, constipation, diarrhea, nutrient deficiencies, and an increased risk for developing leaky gut syndrome. Consuming black rice in place of not only refined grains and processed flour products, but also all wheat, barley, and rye containing foods- even those that are whole grain- can help eliminate digestive problems associated with eating gluten for many people.
Red Blood Cells
6. Helps Slow Down Absorption of Sugar in the Blood, Helping to Prevent Diabetes
Studies have shown that when it comes to the risk of developing diabetes and even obesity, consuming whole grains is much more beneficial and preventative than consuming refined carbohydrates  (8).
Compared to eating processed carbohydrates which are stripped of their fiber, antioxidants, and other nutrients that help to slow down the absorption of sugar in the blood stream, black rice is a much healthier option.
Black rice contains the entire bran of the grain where the fiber is stored, and fiber is able to help glucose (sugar) from the grain to be absorbed by the body over a longer
When researchers examined white and brown rice consumption in relation to type 2 diabetes risk, they found that white rice was more likely to contribute to insulin resistance and diabetes risk (9).
The substitution of whole grains, including brown or black rice, in place of white rice, white bread, pasta, and sweetened cereals may lower the risk of type 2 diabetes and other complications, in addition to keeping your weight in check and your energy levels balanced. breads, pasta, grains
7. Better at Preventing Obesity than Refined Grains
It is very important for those with pre-diabetes, diabetes, or other forms of metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance to consume 100% whole grains, as opposed to processed “white” types that lack fiber.
The same can be said for those who struggle with losing weight, since the fiber and nutrients in whole grain rice helps to shut off hunger signals and prevents overeating. Research has shown that whole grain rice varieties can help prevent insulin resistance that is related to an increased risk for obesity (10).

The History of Forbidden Rice
Black rice is commonly referred to as “forbidden rice” because of its long and interesting history. As you probably know, all rice varieties are a substantial and important crop in the diet of nearly every Asian population, and have been for thousands of years.  In China, black rice has been known for being good for the kidneys, stomach and liver since ancient times.
Thousands of years ago in ancient China, noble Chinese men took possession of every grain of the black forbidden rice, banning its consumption among anyone who was not royalty or very wealthy.
The crop was only grown in very limited quantities, closely monitored, and reserved for only the highest elite class. The common Chinese people were not allowed to grow or consume this black forbidden rice, which led to its unique name that it still carries with it today.
Black rice was actually only first introduced to the United States in the 1990’s, although it’s been enjoyed in other parts of the world for many more years. Today it is no longer forbidden, but still is grown in relatively small amounts especially compared to other types of widely available rice varieties.
Black rice (also known as longevity rice and purple rice) is a range of rice types of the species Oryza sativa L., some of which are glutinous rice. Varieties include Indonesian black rice and Thai jasmine black rice. Black rice is high in nutritional value and is a source of iron, vitamin E, and antioxidants (more than in blueberries). The bran hull (outermost layer) of black rice contains one of the highest levels of anthocyanin antioxidants found in food.

In big cities there is shortage of space, wherever possible  should be stored for a year then used, such rice or any grain (  Dhanya ) becomes laghu easy to digest…..no fixed measure for basmati, one does not develop gases because of rice, it is because of improper bowel movement causing constipation
Deepak Tamboli: Ravindra sir why & how the rice is harmful to diabetics? Is it true that diabetics should not eat rice or rice recipes like idli?
Dr. Ravindra Upadhyay: no, not at all harmful, soft rice, never harmful, rice cooked in pressure cooker which is clumped not soft, is heavy to digest, anything which is taking longer to digest is heavy to digest, giving rise to high sugar, accumulation of fats….. Dr. Madhuri Patil Chaudhari:  If Genetically modified strain of rice is used,   how do we know what kind of Guna or properties the rice has in variant degress than those already mentioned in Samhitas or Granthas? Here in India, we still get the kind of rice that is described in Samhitas but still how do we know the source of variation in which and to what degrees. so better to concentrate on a particular esp. Shalishasti rice or all Granthokt rice variants as medicine and Protect it to prevent variation by Genetic modifications
Dr. Hardikchandra Kalal: One practical view in charaksamhita for rice :-
..तन्डुलान् पृथुकानपी l न जातु भुक्त्वान खादेन्मात्रा खादेद् बुभुक्षित: ll
(1) Should not be eat rice after meal.
(2) Should not be eat only rice in meal or when you would like to eat rice than in "मात्रा". it is more practical view of charak on rice.

Old rice water with honey and fenugreek seed is a good idea for endrogenic acnes….Old rice water with a half banana n a tsf of curd with a pinch of curcumin is a good skin lightning treatment…Rice as oral medicine …….Bran of  rice is rich phyto neurotransmitters so a long term oral intake of it can be suggested in neuropathies. So, During d developmental years of d child also brown rice, bamboo rice is useful…..New rice basmati is rich in amylose which is a necessary for absorption  n manufacturing of certain chemical complex like ALA,  so is beneficial for dryness of skin n wrinkles if taken for a long time

Next topic for discussion: Triphala churna....#an ayurvedic rejuvenator

Anand Javeri: Triphala is a combination of 3 fruits - Amla, Baheda, Harde.
Triphala is a mild laxative & used for proper digestion when one has had over eating, constipation, mouth ulcers, acidity, stomach uneasiness, etc. However, it is not advisable to consume triphala on a daily basis as daily use may loosen the intestinal flexibility. Also, it is habit forming in nature.

Canada Nitin Shah: Triphala powder can be customized according to dosha. For vata predominant 50 % Haritaki, and 25% each of bibhitaki and Amla, for Pitta 50% Amla and 25% each of Haritaki and Bibhataki, for Kapha 50% of bibhitaki and 25% of each Haritaki and Amla.

Binduben Jayeshbhai: In case of indigestion we can take triphala churna n it helps to improve our digestive system

Tilak Raj Gujrani: triphla is helpful in weight management as being laxtive in action, clears biotoxins from the body, thus improving digestion

Dr. Ravindra Upadhyay: Mind well while using Trifla always use full grown harde, not Balharde, it does not have medicinal properties as much as  Shiva, the full grown, which helps in Rasayan too. There are 2 formulae, ( a ) equal proportion of all. ( b ) haritaki 1 part, behda 2 parts, amla 4 parts, both are acceptable, the main hitch is use of. Balharde instead of. Shiva. the full grown Haritaki, which gives desired results.  During detoxification dryness of the bowel is to be avoided by using. Shiva.
In all GI disorders, the Anupan should be. Lukewarm water. hijmaj small harde though causes loose motions, causes dryness of the interlining of the intestine, which is overcome by using Bigger harde.

Dr. Swarup De: In pittaja disease use with ghee or milk, in kaphaja use honey, in Vataja use with warm water or warm milk. Milk is general anupan of all condition, in piles, fistula use jaggery, in eye disorders use honey and ghee both in unequal amount

Dr. Ravindra Upadhyay: Agreed, but whenever there is Agnidushti either milk should be avoided or be medicated ( siddha) then only it should be used. Nothing wrong to use milk per se, but it should be processed.

Mithun Arya sansk: For any kind of injuries you can apply triphala churna on it and it will heal all wounds. Thriphala+ghee+lump sugar churna all mixed equally and taken as an avleh (Paste) early morning is good for the eyes. If Triphala is soaked in water for 1 night then that water can can be used to clean the eyes for better eyesight. Triphala churna + turneric equally can be used as bathing scrub powder

Krup Vasavada: -Triphala churna with Luke warm water does Vatanuloman
- Triphala churna with pur Honey is used in Prameh (Diabetes).
- It is Tridosh shamaka, dipana , Pachana.
-It's powder is useful for eyes ..Cold effusion is used for Eye wash ...
-Triphala churna is used in udawartana (Powder Massage) which helps in vilayana of excessive Medas (Fat).....

Kamal Javeri: Triphla known to reduce even harmful effect of atomic radiation a true incident of bhabha atomic reaserch scientist as told by raeev dixit.
Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Triphala should be given soon after having meal to avoid problems of fault dietary habits(annapana krita dosha)...

Prashaant: Triphala: what is the opinion and advice when nausea occurs after taking triphala (probably due to lot of ama that is being released).

Punit Agrawal New Delhi: What should be the composition of Triphala Churna, would it be equal quantities of Amla, Beheda and Harada or 3:2:1 or 1:2:3 ? Some people say that Triphala attains its Rasayana form only when we put Amla = 3, Bahera : 2, and Harada : 1 or something like that ?

Dr. Samir Gadhia: When there is Amla, Baheda and Harde in equal quantity then and only it is called Triphala..

Vd Hemalkumar Dodiya Bhavnagar: Both are same. Bhavprakash told weight/weight
Sharngdgar told volume/volume so its as 1:2:4…….Weight of 1 haritaki (almost 2 karsh) = weight of 2 bhibhitaki(almost 1 Karsh for 1 fruit) = weight of 4 amalki ( weight of original small amalki is 1/2 Karsh or 5 gram, not highbred amalki)……..So w/w = 1:1:1 and V/v = 1:2:4

Dr. J. T. Contractor : The oil of these three herbal fruits, is highly active in arthritis (oraly:few drops in hot water, externally: gentle massage on painful part after hot water fomentation), orally in body reduce, digestively, upgrades liver & heart function

Vd. Manali Davra: Triphala is a powerful liver cleanser and detoxifier, to improve gallbladder function and to rejuvenate and strengthen the kidneys. It is also used as treatment for kidney stones.

Vd. Dhruti Nirav Bhatt: Trifla is agni pradeepak and aampachak. Its useful in Shoth, Prameh, skin disease, Medojrog. Also have Rasayan properties……sometimes I found that Triphla churna is not responding as laxative on some patients so in Pitta and Kaph prakriti patients have more benificial for laxative effect

Shrikalp Deshpande: How to prepare triphala solution from Powder ?
2-3 Gm powder in 100 ml. Keep for atleast 1 hr, or overnight; filter and use for Eye wash.

Dr. Swarup De: In pittaja disease use with ghee or milk, in kaphaja use honey, in Vataja use with warm water or warm milk. Milk is general anupan of all condition, in piles, fistula use jaggery, in eye disorders use honey and ghee both in unequal amount…..As per Acharya Charak for Rasayana purpose one can use it signally as One Haritaki (Approx 12gm) after digestion of food, 2 Bibhitaki (same as Haritaki) before food and 4 Amalaki after food  with Madhu and ghee in unequal amount.
In triphala decoction, add one tea spoon jaggery and one tea spoon cow ghee ….Give this one is Rasayan Kal,in morning, after bath ….It works for rejuvenation of body.

Vd. Manhar Prajapati: Akshyamayeshu triphala....means eye disorders triphala works good...

Vd. Ajay Pithiya: Again when we r talking about trifala..  Some r using only fruit bark..  If bark only is used (with out seed)  than all should be take equal by weight

Germany Helga Fuchs: Useful in aggrevated VP conditions, to much aggravate V. Can be used as daily rasayan in small quantity. Triphalaquwat for eyebath, red eyes.. Generally very good  results by burning skin irritation and to clear the skin. Best results I got in strange skin roblems where tridosha was irritated, with PK, lifestyle and food changing. Here I use triphala as body paste. Brown, broken mustardsheeds roasted in ghee, then add triphalachurna. Only roast it for some minutes. Itching, redness and dryness are gone for 12 hours. If there is to much kaph in skin, it works not well with ghee. Better skinbath with haldiwater. Triphala can be used as ONLY spice in food by burning sensations in body. Triphala have some virechan effekt, but not in people with hard (dry)colon. Only in soft colon.

Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Triphala having 3 ingredients... Amalaki and haritaki are famous...Amalaki and Haritaki both having five taste(panch rasa), so both are help in balance all three doshas... While less famous bibhitaki cures problems related Rasa, Rakta, Mansa, Meda  Dhatu, according to Charaka... Haritaki, bibhitaki both having pancha rasa and. Bibhitaki works on first 4 dhatu, so why Triphala is main Ingredient of many Ayurveda formulation... Triphala increases bioavailability of formulation..

Shri Minoo parabia: Harada...vat, Behda.....kaff, Ambla.....pitt…..What a wonderful balancing to keep the one handy!  Purgative of course….With warm water it mobilizes fat, reducing body weight.
Topical as well as oral use as trifala ghrita is good for eye health. But not on glaucoma. Good as dentifrice to maintain oral health.

Dr Dipak Shirude: Nowadays, we are getting many fruits, artificially protected - ripen and grown with ample chemical fertilizers etc. These are very much harmful for all of us and our coming generation. It is not easy to get rid of this bad circle. …..Many endocrine disorders including thyroid disturbance, diabetes, male and female fertility problems are spreading like a jungle fire due to this vicious circle. Lowering immunity and physical capacity is also an outcome of this hybreed era……In these circumstances, eating fruits of Trifala is great way !!....... Yet amalaki, bibhitaki and haritaki are not grown by modern methods and hence they are organic and genuine….. This should be our view towards Trifala, not medicine but fruits !!..... Many people are afraid if being habitual to it but one can be convinced, if recently discussed view explained……. Another thing, It is fact that prolonged consumption of 3fala induces some Ruksh gun into the intestines which leads to make it habitual. So if 3fala is given with suitable adjuvant (anupaan) like ghrit etc as per season and personal situation….. trifla is great again as it is ingredient of hundreds of Ras and Bhaishajya kalpaas. It's cleansing and rejuvenating nature is best in class !!....| हरितकी मातैव हितकारिणी ||…. This is greatness of this one fruit amongst Trifala .. It says that Haritakee cares for us like a mother !!.... It means that almost in any situation haritakee is never harmful to the patient. Though it is meant for purgation, it is indicated in saam and or initial stage of Atisaar, until the harmful doshas get eliminated. Haritakee can be administered in many ways for different indications. It will be interesting for a studious person to look into it's versatile effects as per it's form while intake. Unripened and ripened haritakee, different sizes of the fruits also bears various meanings, so far the affectivity and indications are concerned !! We are really very lucky and proud to have this great knowledge !!

Vd. Mahesh Akani: Triphala masi is very good for external application with ghrit in Upadansa

Vd. Kinshuk Hirpara: One Indian study reported by C.P. Thakur, demonstrated the enormous value and effectiveness of Amla, in reducing serum, aortic and hepatic cholesterol in rabbits. In another study, extracts of Amla fruit were found to decrease serum free fatty acids and increase cardiac glycogen. This helps to prevent heart attacks by providing significantly greater protection and nourishment to the heart muscle. ……Studies of the fruit of Bihara found that it contains up to 35% oil and 40% protein. The oil is used in soap making and by the poorer classes,as a substitute cooking oil for ghee. The sweet smelling oil is 35% palmitic, 24% oleic and 31% linoleic. Linoleic oil is an essential fatty acid important for increasing HDL cholesterol, associated with a healthy state and reducing LDL cholesterol, considered to indicate a higher-than-average risk for developing coronary-heart disease.  One of numerous studies of Harada demonstrated its anti-vata or anti-spasmodic properties by the reduction of abnormal blood pressure as well as intestinal spasms. This confirms its traditional usefulness for heart conditions, spastic colon and other intestinal disorders. Courtesy- planet herbs

Vd. Jignesh Thakkar: I have cured some cases of canadial balanoposthitis in diabetic patients with the instructions given as to place penis in triphla churna added warm water . Dr. Hardik- MD: Trifala was indicated in kapha and pitta pradhan roga, prameha, kushtha, vishama jvara(su.su.38/56). charak has also mentioned in kafa and pitta pradhan roga like in only two dashemani like virechnopaga and jvarahara dashemani. It was mentioned in drug of choice for sthaulya (CH.su.21/22) and in mustadi and trifaladi kwath yoga for  santarpanottha roga.(ch . su.23/10-12) Trifala has been mentioned in anupan for eranda sneha in udavarta roga. (CH.chi.26/29) it was mentioned in falatrikadi kwath for all type of sadhya prameha.(ch.chi.6/40)trifala mentioned in falatrikadyarishta in shotha.(ch.chi.12/39)it was mentioned in so many yogas of kushtha roga like kanakabinduarista, trifaladi churns, siddharthak yoga(ch.chi.7/68 & 77&92)etc and mentioned in pathya of kushtha……Trifala is mentioned in so many yoga but I try to highlight some useful and facilely preparation.

Germany Helga Fuchs: I also know to not use triphala with milk, sweet and sour vipaka is not compatible, honey and milk not compatible. I know about honey and ghee in unequal sie. There is same. Honey is hot veerya, ghee cold. Up today I am not shure that it is enough only to use in unequal quantity. I guess, this measure is fine if there is one substance more, who have same veepaka as one of the two. Or is it enough to be compatible in rasa and veerya? I think not.
