Next topic for discussion:Use of Tulsi or Basil according to Ayurveda
Dr. Vasupradha R: Tulasi or holy basil as we all know is given as prasadham in all Vishnu temples.
Lord Shiva is a ugra Murthy, so to in order yo please him vilvam is offered, Likewise Lord Vishnu is shantha Murthy, so Tulasi is offered to him. Tulasi as we all know is holy. But still it grows amidst waste. As per our history (not mythology) Tulasi devi was cursed by Maatha Seetha as she lied to Lord Raman that she didn't see Seethadevi doing shraddham ( rituals done for the ones who had passed away ). But still only Tulasi can be offered again and again after washing it to Lord Vishnu even if it was offered earlier. if something is offered to somebody, it can’t be offered again except Tulasi .

15382: Is it true that Tulsi leaves should not be chewed under teeth it should be swallow whole.? Is it a myth
Mona Patel: I don't think that Bcs tulsi is best
Gary Yuen: Maybe it is possible. I've heard some say varieties of basil have similar properties. From the book The Way of Ayurvedic Herbs (Karta Purkh Singh Khaisa). In India, three main varieties of tulsi are available.
Rama tulsi ("Svet", or "Shukla"- white) is actually deep green, and used more for digestion. It is 3 feet high, with stems about 1/2 inch thick.
Krishna tulsi ("Shyama" - black) is deep magenta, close to purple, is used more for its detoxifying action and is hotter. It can be over 6 feet tall and 5 feet across with stems over 2 inches thick- essentially a small tree. For the most part, though, these two varieties can be used interchangeably. The chemotypes of the two types can vary substantially, depending on where they grow. Vana ("grove") tulsi is Ocimum gratissimum. It has many of the same properties as Rama and Krishna tulsi. For regular use, de Jager recommends a blend of Rama, Krishna and Vana, 2:2:1 (Prashanti, Sri Tulsiji: Queen of Herbs).
In Ayurvedic herbalism, sattvic tulsi is used as an expectorant and anti-mucus herb, for respiratory diseases like cold and flu. It is quite warming to the body, so it will make you sweat (a diaphoretic), a characteristic that also lends itself to fever 526 and flu treatment. Diaphoretics are commonly taken internally for skin disease and itch in all systems of herbal medicine, and tulsi is no exception. A hot infusion of dried leaves is an excellent anupan for other treatments. For kaphaja kasa (kapha coughs), use fresh Krishna tulsi (or substitute regular basil) juice with honey. (Juice tulsi in a wheat grass juicer.)
Dr. Pritam Veer: But in India we find only two types of Tulsi , Shwet and Krishna
Gary Yuen: It seems more types are available in India though they may not be native. Is it correct that purple tulsi is also ocimum sanctum?
862: I heard from one pt that seeds of tulsi given from 4th day of menses upto 10 days, is useful in infertility. Does anyone have knowledge about it?
Vd. Hardik Bhatta: The synonym of Tulsi is Vishnupriya.  According to Hindu shashtra the thing which we offer to Lord  Vishnu is good for our health, because Lord Vishnu is our 'Palanhar'. , So Tulsi is a great herb.
The other ref. From sharagdhar samhita that during breath the pran vata comes from nabhi to take Vishnu padamrut .. means oxygen . Tulsi is very good source of  Oxygen .
862: Rt. I also have same question. Panch tulsi ras is available in market. What is it?
618: We can find sabja even
Dr.Ramesh Natu: I am writing based on informative knowledge. Scientific evidence supports that Tulsi helps in balancing body, mind and spirit.Optimize function of the body during periods of high and chronic stress. Tulsi can reverse some of the devastating effects of diabetes. It can improve brain function and cardiovascular health.
Tulsi has anticancer properties. What is the dose/quantity recommended in prevention of all these disorders? Single herb treatment is generally not recommended by Ayurveda fraternity. Then which other herbs you recommend along with Tulsi for heathy population? Generally Krishna Tulsi is considered as having medicinal properties.
355: Tulsi +Ginger Juice is beneficial for cough cold. Tulsi ,Brahmi , Bilva powder combination is very useful for hyperactive mind and also provides calmness. 862: In ring worm, for local application?
304: No, in internal use
424: Internal use Dose
862: Ok, how to use?
Ayulink: Can someone make list of uses of Basil? Is Basil available in India and Europe , USA are same in property?
Dr. Ramesh Natu: Logically must have same properties. Insectides, pesticides are generally not used for the growth at the domestic level. Is it commercially grown? If yes then we will have check with these growers.
424: Tulasi is having vatakapha hara property. It is being an appetizer used in anorexia, abdominal pain also. Tulasi seeds are used in dysentry. Tulasi leaves are chewed in pyorrhoea
Dr. Jignesh Thakkara: There is a very different use of tulsi. In over sexual stimulation tulsi is given for suppressing over sexual desire as it is having satva guna so it vanishes tamo and rajo guna. Same way tulsi is useful in depression as depression happens because of tamo guna and tulsi fights tamo guna by satva guna.
424: How it can b used sir
Dr. Jignesh Thakkara: As a leaves it is used in bhoga for God because of same reason. You can either prescribe 5  fresh leaves / bd after lunch for over stimulation. For depression may be heavy dose needed and evaluation of patient is needed for prakriti
348: Soaked Tulsi leaves are used to postpone menses. Tulsi swaras Nasya is done when has nasal bleeding. Dr. Bhavesh R Modha: When peroxide is swallowed, it generates oxygen bubbles in the stomach. There can be a lot of stomach irritation and even burns that require a trip to the emergency room and possible hospital admission. Drinking higher concentrations of hydrogen peroxide can be very dangerous because it can cause tissue burns.
Mixing 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide to get 3% hydrogen peroxide

To make a gallon of 3% peroxide: In a clean gallon container, combine 1 and ¼ cups of 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide with 14 and ¾ cups of water.
To make 3% hydrogen peroxide from 35% hydrogen peroxide, the general mixing guideline is: 1 part 35% hydrogen peroxide plus 11 parts water = 3% hydrogen peroxide. You can use this guideline with any quantity you need to mix.
7983: neem, giloy and turmeric, tulsi paste when applied on acne and pimples can ensure relief with lesser chances of repeat breakouts.
Tulsi has linoleic acid which is extremely beneficial for skin,”
Dr. Bhavesh R Modha: Human body naturally makes Hydrogen peroxide to fight infection. which must be present for our immune system to function correctly.White blood cells are known as Leukocytes. A sub-class of Leukocytes called Neutrophils produce hydrogen peroxide as the first line of defense against toxins, parasites, bacteria, viruses and  yeast. For this reason,  the internal use of Hydrogen peroxide is administered by some medical professional known as ‘Oxygen Therapy’ although there is currently no consensus in the medical community on the benefits and risks. Medical literature that supports its use typically recommends that if Hydrogen peroxide is taken internally, a low concentration of around 3% – 5% is used. However only 35% Food Grade hydrogen peroxide (Grade F)  is recommended for internal use, therefore it MUST BE DILUTED before it is consumed. At a concentration of 35%, hydrogen peroxide is a very strong oxidizer and if not diluted, it can be extremely dangerous or even  fatal. Any concentrations over 10% can potentially cause neurological reactions and damage to the upper gastrointestinal tract.
There have been two known fatalities in children who ingested 27% and 40% concentrations of H2O2. Another reports tells of a 26 month old female who swallowed one mouthful of 35% H2O2. She immediately began vomiting, followed by fainting and respiratory arrest. Fortunately, she was under emergency room care and although she experienced erosion and bleeding of the stomach and esophagus, she survived the incident. When she was re-examined 12 days later, the areas involved had healed (J Toxicol Clin Toxicol 90;28(1):95-100).
In India we mainly have 4 types of Tulsi:
1. राम तुलसी
2. कृष्णा तुलसी
3.वन तुलसी
4. कपूर तुलसी
1.   Rama Tulsi
Scientific name: Ocimum Sanctum
Common name: Light Holy Basil
Rama Tulsi is used to cure Fever, Cough, Leucoderma, Heart and Liver Tonic, Paralysis etc.
Light Holy Basil Tulsi has green leaves with white-purplish flowers and green or purplish stem. Rama Tulsi is lighter in shade due to its cooling properties.
2. Krishna Tulsi
Scientific name: Ocimum Tenuiflorum
Krishna Tulsi is used to bronchitis, Malaria Fever, Asthma, Urino-genital disorder, Vomiting, Ear ache, Diabetes, Anti-bacterial, Anti Tuberculosis, Leucoderma etc.  Dark Holy Tulsi has dark purple leaves  with a strong aroma, peppery crisp taste , dark stems and Leaves Smaller than Rama Tulsi.
3.Vana Tulsi
Scientific name: Ocimum Gratissimum
 its Wild basil
Vana Tulsi is used to cure Malaria Fever, Tuberculosis, Diabetes, Asthma, Urino-genital Disease etc.
Wild leaf Tulsi has appearance similar to Rama Tulsi but has white flower, stronger aroma and is taller than other forms of Tulsi.

4.Kapoor Tulsi is used to cure Dysentery, Chronic Diarrhoea, Anti-fungal, Cough, Indigestion, Eczema, Snake bite etc. Kapoor Tulsi is commonly found in USA as it can be grown in temperate gardens. It also attracts many bees due to strong aroma.
P. A. Deshpande: Hydrogen peroxide releases oxygen molecules when it comes in contact with infected portion of body.  Through nebulizer the sprinklers  comes in contact with infected resoeratory track and disinfects instantly releasing obstruction. . H2O2  do not reach stomoch but works as topical treatment.  There is no other process which can give such instant relief.  Hence I chose H2O2 with tulsi juice both well filtered  to suit procedure- it gave  excellant results in terminal conditions.
Fully agreed with explaination.  35 %  concentrated much H2O2  cannot be ramen even um small quantities. It will burn   tongue as welp as ca cities.  In my protocol I  have mentioned  5 %  potency and  5 ml  quantity which is very safe  for small quantity.  H2LO2  is produced by WBCs . as a first line of defence is absolutely correct. However  in critical  conditions or specific situation body mechanism do not work effectively and the problem aggrevates. In such situation instant alternative measures are to be  immediately  applied to save irrevocable damages.  Unfortunately medical  practioners very rarely opt this and do raise a question that it is not in their scope since not found in books of studies and guidelines.  I am sorry if I have crossed borders.
Dr. Bhavesh R Modha: Many medicinal uses of Tulsi are also shown in folk medicine and in modern science today. Tulsi in Ayurveda charak is said to be शिरोविरेचनीय = sneezewort & श्वासहर = anti dyspneics.
It is said  that both charak & sushrut   Tulsi destroy the odor.
Whatever Tulsi's medicinal value  it is due to the fragmentary aromatic substance contained in it. In chemical composition found out
Tulsi essential oil consists mostly of eugenol(~70%)
246: Tulsi has also been shown to be active against many animal pathogens, and this has led to tulsi being used in animal rearing to reduce infections in cows, poultry, goats fishand silkworms.
168: I have heard a story somewhere that the goddess devi becomes angry at the scent of tulsi. Is there a reason such as possible negative effects or is it just some other religious association?
864: No doubt it's a myth. They associate this just to deliver something different to the society. If u put a religious belief in any matter, people stop doing that things. So in ancient time, they used to tell there stories.
