Next topic for discussion:  Dhatu Kshay #Ayurveda
Dr.Piyush Dodiwadiya: Ras dhatu kshay Symptom can be co relate with, decreased immunity... Shram glani shabd ashahisnuta
Ayulink: One basic question: how many of us practically examin Dhatu kshay? or dhatu vruddhi?
How to understand Ras dhatu kshay? is there any easy method for that?
Vd. Pulkit D. Patel: Sir in reality we are only focus on symptomatic treatment and its a main problem of ayurveda

Dr.Piyush Dodiwadiya: Majja dhatu kshay Bone marrow depression. On CBC report we will find low wbc low hb low platelates. In any severe viral infection like dengue, cbc shows above finding And due to severe weakness pt feels bhram timirdarshan etc...
Ayulink: There is a very simple clinical method to check rasa dhatu. Hold your both hands raised from elbow to your waist height. Make light (not very tight) fists.  Now raise both hands on your head, keep them there for 10 seconds.  Bring both hands again in waist height, and open yr fist in blink. Observe both palms, changing colour. The micro second you see colour changes from pale to red. If rasa dhatu disturbance is there, the changing of color will take little more time. If rasa is good, you will take very less time - almost nil.  I think I have written in proper manner to guide you properly.
Dr. Rachana Mumbai: Will definitely check with patients for this
Dr.Piyush Dodiwadiya: Sir Is it capillary reffing or something like that
Dr. Pritam Veer:
 रस क्षये हृत् पीडा कम्प शून्यताः तृष्णा च॥(सु.सू.१५/)
रस (क्षीणे)रौक्ष्यं श्रमः शोषो ग्लानि शब्द असहिष्णुता॥(.हृ.सू.११/१७)
Rakta Dhatu Kshaya – depletion of Rakta (blood) – Blood tissue gets its nourishment from Rasa Dhatu. Rakta and Pitta are directly related. Increase / decrease of Pitta dosha directly causes the same with blood tissue. Depletion of blood tissue causes symptoms of anemia, which are explained as – Parusha – Roughness, Sphutita – cracks, Mlana- dullness, Tvak Rukshata – skin dryness.
Mamsa Dhatu Kshaya – depletion of muscle tissue – Muscle tissue gets its nutrition by Rakta Dhatu. Depletion of muscle tissue directly causes weakening of limbs and causes  – Sphik, Greeva Udara Shushkata – emaciation of the buttocks, neck and abdomen.
Medo Dhatu Kshaya – depletion of fat tissue – Fat tissue gets nourishment by Mamsa Dhatu. Depletion of this causes thinness of the body.  Sandhi sphutana – cracking of the joints, Glani – Lassitude, Akshno Ayasa – tired eyes, Udara tanutva – thinness of the abdomen.
Asthi Dhatu Kshaya – depletion of bone tissue – As per Ayurveda, bone tissue gets nourishment by fat tissue. This is why, oral administration of oil, ghee etc are advised during osteoporosis, osteo arthritis etc. Bone tissue is inversely related with Vata Dosha. This means that, increase of Vata dosha causes depletion of bone tissue and vice versa. Ayurveda explains that teeth, nail, mustache are also related with bone tissue. Hence, depletion of bone tissue exhibits the following symptoms. – Kesha, Loma, Nakha, Shmashru, Dvija prapatana – falling of hair, nails hair of the beard including mustaches and teeth, Shrama – tiredness, Sandhi shaithilya – looseness of joints.
Majja Dhatu Kshaya – depletion of bone marrow – As per Ayurveda, marrow gets its nourishment by Asthi dhatu.  depletion of Majja dhatu causes – Asthi Sheeryata – emptiness of bones, Durbala, Laghu Asthi – thinness, weakness, and lightness of the bones, Vata Roga – frequent affliction with Vata imbalance disorders.
Shukra Dhatu Kshaya – depletion of semen / female reproductive tissues – As per Ayurveda, Shukra dhatu comprises of male and female reproductive system. It gets its nourishment by Majja Dhatu. Its depletion causes – Daurbalya – weakness, Mukha Shosha – dryness of mouth, Pandutva – pallor, Sadana – lassitude, Shrama – tiredness, Klaibya – impotency and Shukra Avisarga – non-ejaculation of semen, non-ovulation.
Ayulink: Rasa vaha srotas refilling , I think. I have learnt this from my guru.
Vd Lakshmi G: What might be the reason for mamsa dhatu kshaya? Is there any reason like tulya gotra vivaha? If so... can anybody explain?
Dr.Piyush Dodiwadiya: Why you concentrate particularly on tuly gotr And what symptom you observe in mamsa dhatu kshaya. Protein deficiency can be consider . Muscle wasting is there in some neurological condition also like motor neuron disease
Ayulink: How to check Mamsa dhatu kshay? I can share with you an easy method. Ask the patient to show you palm and finger (back side)....make tight and close - all fingers. If you can see through between the fingers, is a mamsa kshaya vikruti....once again this is from my guru. If anybody does have other idea, pl share here. This photo froma young lady, age 23...very lean and slim (you can call her Vata person), Now here u can see the gap between 2 fingers. My Guru Late Vd. Kirit Pandya's interpretation was Mamsa dhatu kshay.  In aged people, in Vata people, in under nourished people  - you find it more.
The mamsa or muscle surrounding bones have decreassed at particular point.
Dr.Piyush Dodiwadiya: So Plan for management? According to symptom or any other specific rx
Ayulink:  saman guna vardhane.....or opoosite vata treatment...specifically abhyang, snehapan  etc.
I always ask  my students to check 7 dhatus before they decide any line of treatment. Majority of our practitioners make V-P-K diagnosis and thats all. But I personally feel that only VPK is not complete. The whole theory name is Dosha - Dhatu and Mala theory. Dhatus and Malas are also important to consider. May be I got this ffrom my Guru and that makes me successful in practice.
Vd Lakshmi G: Because the patient is balavan, no proper cause has been found, but it has been inferred that his father's is congenital marriage. So I want to know does the congenital marriage acts like causative factor for muscle dystrophy
Ayulink: *Clinical / Practical tips for Dhatu Examination*
Rasa - as I suggest earlier with lightly closed fist, raise above shoulder, bring it down rapidly after 30 sec, open the fist very fast and observe the change in palm colour
Rakta - Darshana, some questions too and later with modern lab tests (they are bio-chemistry, I dont consider modern labs as allopathic tools)
Mamsa - looking at mamsa surrounding bones
Meda - many parameters like BMR etc
Asthi - by looks - improper growth / decrease in bone joints. Particularly hand / leg fingers
Majja - Initially by questioning - later with the help of lab
Shukra - Initially by questioning - later with the help of lab
Dr.Piyush Dodiwadiya: Sir for majja what kind of lab
Ayulink: Bone marrow testing
