Gary Yuen: there are more subtle forms of inflammation and swelling. On the caraka chapter on udara, there's mention of foot swelling. seems to suggest inflammation as well. doctors say belly fat and excess fat itself causes inflammation. me, currently at 5kg above ideal weight. about that, maybe slightly more. have noticed at when it goes down, inflammation/pitta is lower.sun exposure - inflammation/oxidation. – south asia adapted by naturally choosing protective foods. maybe any oxidation causes subtle minor inflammation.
Dr. Pritam Veer: Shoth vataj , pittaj, kafaj mainly ,Shoth is mainly due to kaf dosh.
Vd. Sachin Kadlag: " उत्सेध ( Utsedha ) "  term  generally denotes  " swelling".  श्वयथु /शोथ /शोफ , these terms are used to describe inflammations . In Charaka Shotha  is explained in Chikitsa sthana  which mainly deals with inflammatory independent disease . While In Charaka Sutrasthana chapter 18  , there is collection of different types of disease whre  different types of inflammations  are present .Shotha is independent disease described in Charaka Chikitsastahna. In all diseaes where Shotha is mentioned , it is a symptom .Shotha could be external as well as internal . Yes , these are types of Nija Shotha , and also shotha could be Aagantu .
Dr. Pritam Veer: Yes, nij means internal , agantu are due to external samprapti
Vd. sandeep Ahirkar: In lakshan of kapha prakop shopha come                  shopha meaning told as inflamation which comes on any one part of body ..शारीरेकदेशोतथीत
Shahil H Bhavsar:
There are 5 cardinal signs of inflammation:
1)Rubor-redness
2)Calor-heat
3)Tumor-swelling
4)Dolor-pain
5)Loss of function
Dr. Pritam Veer: Redness due to pitta
Calor - pittta
Tumor -- kaf
Dolor- vaat
Loss of function- vaat
Ayulink Ayurveda: Pl share treatment and medicines for shotha - inflammation or swelling
17400: Marma Churna+ egg Yolk
Ayulink Ayurveda: Ingredients? Please. This is not known combination. And also how to use it? Lepam?
Vd Mahavurya Dasa: Marma gulika plus kshirabala 101 ,
Lepana,
17400: Lepam, marma gulika in powder form only
Ayulink Ayurveda: And role of egg yolk? As binder?
17400: Ya binder
Vd. Sachin Kadlag: Usually All doctors told patients to have salt restricted diet in shotha , but its more important to avoid amla rasa in excess as well . Katu rasa is basically directly opposite to shotha , especially Chitrak . But we need to use different combinations of them .
Ayulink Ayurveda: And then what about shothhar aushadh group/ gana?
Vd. Sachin Kadlag: Shotha treatment varies according to dosha .
But apart from that area of shotha whether sarvanga (whole body ) , or ekaanga (localised ) , treatment varies .In localised also , treatment varies according to region also. These dravyas are Dashamool , but has to be used by correct formulation (kalpana ). Arishta kalpana is also said to be directly useful in shotha . That 's why Dashmoolarishta is choice of many Vaidyas in practice. Duration /chronicity also matters a lot .
Ayulink Ayurveda: Internal as well as external treatments needs to be planned
Vd. Sachin Kadlag: yes, External has essential role too.
Ayulink Ayurveda: Punarnava, gokshura, rasna, haridra, etc are mainly used. By I think it's more used under western influence. Just like diuretic. Haridra is good for local application in muscular pain and inflammation. Or in tonsillitis. Lime (Chuna - pan me use hota hai woh) + honey is also good for local application for inflammation in  aamavata condition
Vd. Sachin Kadlag: Shotha has stagnation of dosha , hence external treatment is principally for  local Paachan and to remove  vibandha . Yes , Haridra , Aamraharidra , Raktachandan are used  traditionally as a first aid . Rather than mutrala (?? diuretics ) medicines if patient as good bala , dosha are more , then Virechan is required on regular basis . That 's why Gud Haritaki is more useful . In nirama avastha , virechan . In saama avastha and  where  not possible , Gud (jaggery ) with Sunthi or Ardrak  for 2 to 4 weeks . If kaphapradhan shotha in Lower part of body than Gomutra haritaki instead of Gud haritaki.
Dr. Pritam Veer: I use Punarnava kalp. I.e. Punarnava guggul , punarnava mandur.  Also shoth is bcz if kafadhikya , so if we use kalp acting mainly on kaf prakop then it wl reduce shoth.
17400: Lajjalu +saindava in rice wash water, boil it and do lepanam
Dr. Pritam Veer: Say for eg. in kafpradhan sandhi shul , I use gokshuradi guggul it will reduce inflammation as well asa swelling. All guggul kalp are  anti inflammatory in action just decide doshadhikya then act accordingly.
17400: Coconut Milk + Garlic ...., boil it and make it into paste...., And do lepanam again and again.... All types of shotha will Go away
Dr Jayesh Patel: Dose of gud & adrak?? Equally ??
Vd. Sachin Kadlag: yes , equal.. increasing and decreasing step by step .
Vd. Dhruti Nirav Bhatt: Dashmool Kwath internally gives good result, Dashang lap. If shotha  is due to  injury Turmeric with salt paste  gives good result. One of my experience is Ampachan gives wonderful result if jointpain and swelling are chief complains for that dry ginger decoction with castoroil or only dry ginger decoction, light diet. Aam pachan vati gives very good result
Croatia Branko Markovic: Powder of barley, ginger, horsegram, licorice - fine powder, apply with sour buttermilk as lepa. Internally Gokshuradi Guggulu in most cases will do work
Gary Yuen: barley and horsegram seem to also work great when eaten. Recently, I've been eating chrysanthemum and lotus flower stem. large amounts dried such as what will fit in one hand. Pitta reducing antiinflammatories I think one could take in larger quantities compared to turmeric, ginger, etc. Agasta (and other sesbanias, some said to be toxic) is what I wonder about most. I don't think anyone has compared it and less used foods to common ginger, turmeric, etc. but those that also reduce the affected dosha, one can take in large amounts it seems.Among tested Western cooking herbs that are anti-inflammatory, i think it was rosemary or majorum. One or both. Found the study. Mentioned by a doctor. Tested against. Inflammatory oxidized cholesterol which may be what happens when you cook meat the wrong way. Maybe only boiling as gruel stew and soup is safe. Or maybe all meat has oxidized cholesterol. Don't know. Ghee made the incorrect way like what you find in store does. Of what was tested, what worked : cloves, ginger, rosemary, and turmeric In a study of 3000 foods for antioxidants, 1 was a tree sap from the amazon forest, 2 was triphala, 3 was amalaki, 4 clove.
Dr. Jaya Sambhus: In sthotha there is avrodhatmak samprapati  Lepa , Raktmokshana, Viddh karma, Agnikarma, Swedan
All these procedures r useful n gives instant results along with internal med
Gary Yuen: Manjishtha? Was looking into new herbs and found a European relative in rubia family that was once the source for red clothing dye. As color is one property of antioxidants and maybe antinflamatories, Matbe what has the most color is also worth study.
Vd. Jignesh Thakkar: Sotha and sofa is different in suahruta.
Ie sotha is swelling And sofa is inflammation. While we read charak both is sofa...
Gary Yuen: What are pitta reducing antiinflamatories? That seems maybe most significant and important for other reasons. Can take in large amounts so better than turmeric ginger etc in small amounts. More kapha reducing. Some flowers like some chrysanthemum lotus rose and violet also antivirals and show effect on HIV. How strong don't know. Stronger antivirals somewhere? Matbe. Associated with bitter tastes? Seems so. Possible to treat bird flu, nipah virus and others? Maybe.
Best foods and herbs are not just anti-inflammatory but rasayana for many reasons. What are they? Agastya flower? Most bitter brassicas, more bitter than moringa? Most bitter variety of shali, yava, millet, etc? So many questions. Viruses like flu everyone gets. But if immune system is strong, no symptoms and body easily kills it. Possible for nipah and HIV? Maybe. But requires perfect diet. Guduchi lotus neem agastya etc. Take regularly as vegetable as described in texts. Then theres hope. Inflammation is a sign of multiple problems and best treatment is change of all foods and herbs. Best way to avoid problem? Ideal diet weight food quantity etc as described in texts.

Dr. Pritam Veer: Rakt , vaat drushtijanya shoth , raktmokshan by Jalouka gives good results.
Anoop S. Anand: we generally use Marma gulika in powdered form with egg white..sometimes jadamayadi or Kottamchukkadi choornam or Jadamayadi vmchootnam with egg white
Dr.Piyush Dodiwadiya: Controversy Ayurveda says do snehan swedan Oil Massage for injured pard(shoth) Allopathy refuses It Advised to apply cold (ice pack), and we are advised swedan Please elaborate this if anyone knows
Dr. Jaya Sambhus: Snehan is contraindicated in Ayurveda too . Only swedan is indicated .
Dr. Rachana Mumbai: Recently I got sprain in my right leg, at the time of incident I had unbearable pain I applied ice pack and my pain subsided and I could walk immediately And further also I just applied ice pack  instead of our traditional application of hot haldi and salt And I am better but it's not going completely Swelling still there  Minor but there May be for temporary relief ice packs work Swelling is not reducing much but pain is reducing
Dr. Jaya Sambhus: Try leech for permanent cure

Dr Jayesh Patel: In internal shoth(inflammation) ...Like colitis, endometritis, same medicines work or not??
Dr. Jyoti Ashok: Varunadi quata is good in internal shotha.
Dr. Rachana Mumbai: What type of dhara
Dr. Jyoti Ashok: In colitis , endometriosis the chikitsa sutra is completely different. It differs acc to condition of the pt. vyadhi etc. Like dhanyamla dhara Grita dhara in burns Etc
Dr. Samir Suneri: mainly swelling are three types Vatika, Paitik, and coughaj in my clinic I am using punarnavadi Mandur in vatik swelling.
Vd Ashish Kumar: वातज शोध दिन में और कफज शोध रात्रि में बढ़ता है। कफज शोध- त्रिकटु + गोमूत्र वातज- दशमूल,सोंठ पित्तज- पुनर्नवा,अर्क मकोय
Dr. Samir Suneri: Sooth{swelling} has very broad range of diseases Here I m explaining  about sooth due to arthritis First we should think about what is the basic reason of sooth  In arthritis all swelling are due to pain when we give medicine for vaat vikar or pain swelling are also reduced Some time we can use agnikarma for pain and swelling Some time we can use karpuradi tail  dhara And patra potli swed And some time  We can use  Medicine like punarnavadi mandoor Punarnavadi gugulu Punarnavsa And dasmool kadha And in external application dasand lep is nice And daruharidra+gaumutra+ vacha is very beneficial And arkaptra is also very useful for sweling E/A And we all vaidhyas are using  leeches for ekkang sooth And mainly we can  use yukti praman in all type of sweling
Dr. Meenaxi Verma: Acharya charak very well explained sotha
14929: It's vata pradhaan tridoshaja udakavaha twak maamsa adishtana rasa rakta dushya with sanga as shrotodushti bhaya maarga chirakari vyadi
30995: Punarnava works well to relieve congestion and reduce pain and discomfort in the area. Combination of Arjuna and egg white or Raktachandana and shunti  or  Devadaru and rasna  can be used in different shotas. If the shotha starts suppurating then external lepana with Upodika and haridra can be done and once it opens up it can be cleaned and dusted with Ashwagandha choorna And vrana chikitsa protocol can be followed. Internal use in the firm of swarasa, khwatha, asava etc Punarnavasava / Punarnava Ghana vati can be used as drug of choice in sarvanga shotha and glaucoma
14929: I use given dashamoolarista nd with punarnava mandura  in vata pradhaana condition.
Vd. Komal Kalavadiya: N also we can use chandraprabhavati
14929: Usual i use if any renal related conditions.. Chandrapraha with plain  gokshura ksh (freshly prepared).
Raman Kumar: Use of Punarnavadi and Kasani Ark is useful in shoth related to Renal dysfunction.
Dr Avadhut Mohite: We mostly use ChandraPrabha Vati for Abhyantar Sevan along with Dashang Lep externally. Sunthi lep has also given good upashay externally most of the time
