Anand Javeri: I've heard that cumin cools stomach. May be that's why it is used in buttermilk...and may be it facilitates proper secretion of digestive juices.

Tilak Raj Gujrani: Put some desi ghee in a kadhai, add gur (jaggery). Heat it till gur melts, then add jeera. Mix it well while on low flame. Take it down and give it the shape of thin chapati. After delivery in females very good to increase quality and quantity of milk as well as helps in increasing digestive fire, preventing obesity and aids in clearance of lochia.

Supra53: When I had the problem of burning in stomach in summer, vaidya advise me to keep cold water with jeera , cardmom & khadi sakar for 6-7 hours &  then drink instead of water. I feel good after doing this.

Vd. Bhavesh Thakkar: Cumin-seed water is best deepaniya. Also vatagna.
It should be administered as anoopana in all ama and vata condition medicines.

Vd. Dhruti Kagrana: Cumin seeds are known as Jeeraka in Sanskrit. The word is derived from Jeerna – digestion. Hence Jeeraka means that which digests.  Cumin seed is very good in treating digestive track disorders. 
Botanical name – Cuminum cyminum Linn.
Family – Umbelliferae
Hindi name: Safed Jeera, Jeera
Sanskrit Synonyms: Jeeraka, Ajaji – Cumin – Cuminum cyminum, Kana, Jarana
Classical categorization:
Charaka Samhita – Shoolaprashamana – herbs that relieve abdominal pain
Sushruta and Vagbhata – Pippalyadi group of herbs
Cumin seeds medicinal qualities:
Guna (qualities) – Laghu (light to digest), Rooksha (dry)
Rasa (taste) – Katu (pungent)
Vipaka (taste conversion after digestion) – Katu (pungent)
Veerya (potency) – Ushna (hot)
Effect on Tridosha – Kaphavatahara – balances Kapha and Vata, increases Pitta.

Ruchya – improves taste
Deepana, Agnivardhana – Improves digestion strength
Grahi, Sangrahi – absorbant, useful in malabsorption syndrome and diarrhoea,
Medhya – improves intelligence
Garbhashaya Vishuddhikrut – cleanses and detoxifies uterus. Hence it is widely used in post partum care of the mother.
Jvaraghna – Useful in fever
Pachana – carminative
Vrushya – natural aphrodisiac
Balya – improves strength and immunity
Chakshushya – good for eyes, improves vision power
Ruchya – improves taste
Useful on the treatment of Gulma,Adhmana,Atisara ,Grahani ,Krumi,Chardi, Kshaya ,Kushta,Jvara
Scientific research has found that  may cumin stimulate the secretion of pancreatic enzymes, which are key factors in digestion and nutrient assimilation. The spice’s digestive stimulating properties are attributable to its content of volatile oils. The smell of cumin starts enhancing digestion. The smell activates salivary glands. The compound Thymol is found in cumin, and it activates the pancreas to secrete digestive enzymes, as well as bile, to stimulate digestion. It is also a very good source of iron……..Additionally, cumin has anti-oxidant properties to protect the body from free radicals. Cumin also use in morning sickness.

Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Indian dish(specially Gujarati) is made of such a way that it contains nutritional value as well as metabolic value... Cumin, chilly, turmeric, ginger etc having effect on Metabolism (agni) while whole grains, vegetables and dairy products have nutritional value...Cumin is one of them  having good effect on Agni. It improve digestive power.. But its having Agni mahabhoot .. So its useful where Shoshan Karma is desirable... Sometimes it also cause constipation, especially in Elder people...It is helpful in Vatavyadhi where shita guna  of vata is provocated.. But it can increase problem where Ruksha guna of vata is provocated..

Shri Minoo parabia: All Umbellifer s are carminative, antacid and antemetic.
In my childhood, I had heard of successful use of decoction of mixed Umbellifers on Cholera victims. ……Cumin soaked with rice starch like poha flakes can take care of hyperacidity pronto.

Germany Helga Fuchs: Sorry was out for yogateaching for a week, miss something her. Agree about cumin, I for myself use it by cooking as part of 5 panchas, and after food a pinch of cumin in buttermilk. in summertime sometimes with a pinch of rocksalt.


Vd. Kinshuk Hirpara: Cumin seeds are an excellent source of iron, a mineral that plays many vital roles in the body. Iron is an integral component of hemoglobin, which transports oxygen from the lungs to all body cells, and is also part of key enzyme systems for energy production and metabolism.
