Next topic for discussion: Bhrajaka pitta and its understanding in disease process.

Vd. Neeraj Pooner: Bhrakak pitta is located in twak.
Ushmakrit - sharir ki garmi rakhne wala
Anand Javeri: Twak --???
Vd. Neeraj Pooner: Jo twacha ( twak) me Pitt rehta h usko bharajak Agni sangya di Gyi hai. Twacha par pryukat snehadi , abhyang, sechan , avgahan, alepadi kriya me prayukt drvayo Ko pakata hai.Sharir ki chaya ka prakshak hai. Anaya karm - swed utapati - Tail granthi se tail utpan krwa kr twacha Ko snigdh rakhna- Ushnta ka niyantrak.
Ayulink: Is there any specific role of Bhrajaka pitta in disease process? Even in skin disorders?
Vd. Dhruti Kagrana:
Bhrjaka pitta :- Role in skin & psychological disorders.
Bhrjaka pitta
Located in skin
By Abhyanga / threw medicine
Stimulate tractile & mechno receptor
Increased neurotransmitter activation
Secration of melatonin & serotonin
Stimulation of Tractile & mechno receptor in the skin increase temperature thus causes kinetic motion it causes vasodilation in the subcutaneous vessel by which the veerya of drug gets absorbed there by improves circulation by increaseing blood aminoacid that is increasing plasma tryptophan in turn increase neurotransmitters activation causes the secration of melatonin through which serotonin is secreted....
Dr. Uday H. Hanagal: Tvakastham bhrajakam bhrajanat tvachaha. A.H.Sutrasthana 12th chptr Doshabhediya adhyaya. Bhrajaka pitta is there in the Tvacha & doing bhrajana(deepana, pachana) karma. So it is very important that Niramaavastha should be there in the Sharera before doing the Abhyanga, Parisheka, Alepadi, then only medicines can work in the skin very effectively otherwise person can get allergic condition like itching, rashes, burning etc (Anupashaya).
USA Gary Yuen: Is there a place bhrajaka is discussed? I can find only little info in Caraka or Astanga. It is mentioned that one of the functions of bhrajaka is the absorption of oils such as during abyanga. How does this become deregulated and are there causes or signs?
Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Bhraja means Complexion.  This Pita is related to complexion(छायानां प्रकाशक).Susruta has said function of Bhrajak pita in one word- Ushma kruta, means it produce body heat. It is deregulated by other doshas(vata, kapha) or other types of pitta Like pachaka pita.. As all pita depend on pachaka pita(आत्म शक्त्या शेषाणां पितस्थानानां शरीररस्य चाग्निकमँणानुग्रहं करोति।), vitiation of pachaka pita may cause deregulation of bhrajaka pitta too.
Problems in normal body complexion (discoloration) and changes in body temperature are signs of deregulated bhrajak pitta, as bhrajaka pita has role in body complexion and temperature...
Ayulink: This is not very commonly discussed topic, as you can see that we have very few comments from our learned friends. The role of Bhrajaka pitta in disorders - particularly skin disorders are not clearly understood in my clinical practice
USA Gary Yuen: Seems not discussed in many texts. This is a footnote in my translation of Caraka.
Resides in the skin and gives it luster and softness. Its functions are:
(a) the absorption of oils, ointments or any substance from which the body is coated;
b) enhancement of radiance of the complexion and the color of the skin.
Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: I think Bhrajaka doesn't cause any problems independently and it can't be treated directly, as in treatment of Kushtha charaka mentions first purification and then use of various external application. Most of external applications are contraindicated in case of indigestion, it shows bhrajaka is dependent on pachaka. This things already mentioned by Susruta
USA Gary Yuen: If one of the factors relating to skin color is haemoglobin, can it be related to that?
Ayulink: I think it is more related with pigmentation process. but in a way we can say that anemia can also be reflected on Brajaka pitta disturbance.....is it true? if yes, then we can corelate Brajaka with Hb%.
Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Skin color is mainly because of presence of melanin/absence of melanin. So it can be related with melanin
Dr. Sushant Patil: If we consider Hb as Ranjaka pitta and read Pandu and Yaksha Kamala then we can find relation between Ranjaka pitta and bhrajaka pitta.
Anand Javeri: Does vitiligo come under bhrajaka pitta?
USA Gary Yuen: Carotenoids from a good diet of fruits and vegetables also impacts skin color. Pale without. But in this case maybe it is haemoglobin if there is an affectation of skin permeability and difficulty in absorption.
Ayulink: Brajaka pitta vruddhi lakshana: Pittavbhasta, santap, shitkamita, alpanidra, murchha, bal hani, indriya daurbalya, vin-mutra-netra me pittata (Su. su. 15/18)
vin-mutra-netra me pittata, kshudha, trusha, dah and alpanindrata (Ash. Hru. 11/7)
Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Is it bhrajaka pitta vruddhi or only pita vrudhhi lakshana??
Ayulink: Brajaka pitta kshay lakshana:
Mandoshma, mandagni, nishprabha (Su.su. 15/11)
Mandagni, shitataa and prabha hani (Ash. Hru. Su. 11/16)
Bhrajaka pitta sthan (Location):
Twacha (skin) (Su.su. 21/7) (Ash. Hr. su. 12/14)
Nabhi, amashay, sveda, lasika, rudhir evam rasa, - pradhantah nabhi me (Ash hr. su. 12/2)

Vd. Pankaj Chhayani:
Symptoms of aggravated bhrajaka pita:-
Yellow discoloration, excessive temperature, desire of cold, lack of sleep, fainting, low immunity/strength, weakness of senses, yellow discoloration of stool, urine, eye etc...
Symptoms of diminutive pitta:-
Low temperature, weak digestive power, loss of normal body complexion...
USA Gary Yuen: The fifth is the Bhrajakagni or the Pittam in the skin which produces perspiration or helps exudations from the skin by evaporation. In short it is the Pittam which keeps active, under certain circumstances, the secretions from the sweat and sebaceous glands of the human skin.

From another site:  can be compared to melanin causes blackening, pigmentation and discoloration of skin. Excessive exposure to the sun, irregular eating, sleeping habits and consumption of foods and drinks that aggravate pitta are responsible for the aggravation of bhrajka pitta also.maybe studies of manjistha and it's action might help understand. seems to be a state of inflammation and maybe related to platelet aggregation.
Anand Javeri: Does vitiligo come under bhrajaka pitta?
Dr. Bhadresh Naik: Such type of sign and symptoms are related to b12 deficiency so we can consider in bhrajac pitta dusti
Vd. Pankaj Chhayani: Many conditions come under  bhrajaka pitta vitiation
Complexion promoters drugs have effects on Bhrajaka pitta..
Candana (santalum album), Tunga(calophyllus inophyllum), padmaka(lotus), Usira(vetiveria zizanioidss), Madhuka(Glycyrrhiza glabra), Manjistha(rubia cordifolia), Sariva(hemidesmus indicus), payasa(Ipomoea paniculata), Sita, Lata..These are herbs  mentioned under complexion prompter dashemani...Manjistha is also one of them.
Dr. J. T. Contractor: A mixture of glycerol (castor oil derivative). Olive oil with small amount of cod liver oil a dermatological nourishing agent in any of the exodermis problems.
Dr. Bhavesh Modh:

  1. Very nice discussion by involvement of hundreds of Ayurvedians is really amazing. All credit goes to Dr Prerak Shah for bringing so many Ayurvedians on a NET platform in the era modern technology.Actually Ayurveda and Modern Technology cannot go together is a notion amongst most of the Indians. But the success of this platform proving otherwise.Ayurveda scientists are coming together and the hidden strength of Ayurveda is realized first of all by the people working in the field. It is still a long way to go and transfer this confidence to general suffering population in the first place naturally Indians.
I think these discussions can be compiled in a most systematic way in the form of an article instead of just blocks.I am aware that this simple suggestion involves lot of work. But for this purpose my one more suggestion is that students pursuing for M.D.degree should come forward for this noble cause.I am sure all the guidance these students can get from Dr Prerak Shah.
