Ayulink Ayurveda: Vasan rutu and Shivratri are coming near. Is there any relation with Ayurveda? Why bhang is popular drink on shivratri? Maha Shiv Ratri will be on 4th March.

Ayulink Ayurveda: can someone describe Bhang?
Vd. Ashish Baman: Yes
Dr. Subroto kumar Das: Tishna guna and ushna virya hone se accha kaph shamak hai. Tatha vedna Pradhan rogo me accha upyog hai iska.
Vd. Ashish Baman: Bhanga is khapha-vataghna drug
Dr. Subroto kumar Das: Tishna guna,Tikta rasa, ushna virya, katu vipak  tatha madkari hai ye dravya. CNS disorders me accha effect hai.
Vd. Ashish Baman:
 Rasa- tikta
Veerya- ushna
Vipak-katu
Guna- laghu,teekshna
Ayulink Ayurveda: Bhang (Hindi: भांग) is an edible preparation of cannabis
Vd. Ashish Baman: Cannabis sativa latin name
Dr. Subroto kumar Das: Aajkal cannabis oil par research bahut hua hai. Cancer and related complications par.
Vd. Ashish Baman: From Cannabinnaceae family
Dr. Subroto kumar Das: Like nausea, vomiting and pain during chemotherapy/cancer
Vd. Ashish Baman: Use ful parts - ptra, pushpa, niryas
Ayulink Ayurveda: the major question is, why Bhang is traditionally prepared and consumed in the time between Maha shivratri and Holi? That is the month of March....
Vd. Sachin Kadlag: In Maharashtra , a late successful and reknowned Vaidya Nrushinha Bagewadikar , in his initial practice cured so many  patients of severe illness resulting due to  kaphapradhanasaanipatika jwara using only Bhang .... by remembering the quote " भङ्गा कफहरा " He used Bhang by making it purified . I think same principle applies in Mhashivaratri as to prevent kapha prakopa and hence One of the  prakrut jwara which can happen in Vasanta Rutu (Spring season ).
Ayulink Ayurveda: and second question is : why it is more consumed in North India? Yes, Bhang is kaphahara...
Saparsha: Though it’s ushna Vidya, it’s believed to cool down the body heat
Dr. Subroto kumar Das: Coz it is favourite flower/plant of Lord shiva, Bhang , dhatura flower are major offerings to Lord shiva
Dr. Dhananjay Bairagi: Majority it is cultivated in North india?
Ayulink Ayurveda: Maha Shivaratri a Hindu festival celebrated annually in honour of Lord Shiva. There is a Shivaratri in every luni-solar month of the Hindu calendar, on the month's 13th night/14th day, but once a year in late winter (February/March, or Magha) and before the arrival of Summer, marks Maha Shivaratri which means "the Great Night of Shiva". This establish the rutusandhi kal theory
Saparsha:
Rasa - Tikta
Guna – laghu, Teekshna, Vyavayi
Vipaka- Katu
Veerya – Ushna
Part used - Leaves
Vd. Sachin Kadlag: Compared to South and middle India , North India is much cold area
Dr Venkata swamy: Bhang-Cannabis
Ayulink Ayurveda: Maha shivratri is clearly for us a rutusandhikal and as someone wrote ahead that beginning of Vasant - more prone to have kapha agrravation - so to prevent such kapha aggravation - may be bhang is a very common available herb in north India
Dr Venkata swamy: It can be use also in cancer treatment. Very effective Results. Little bit dose.
Dr. Dhananjay Bairagi: Which type of CA. In between chemo?
Dr Venkata swamy: Ca Stomch
Ayulink Ayurveda: the Maha Shivaratri is celebrated at night. Maha Shivaratri is a solemn event notable for its introspective focus, fasting, meditation on Shiva, self study, social harmony and an all night vigil at Shiva temples
Vd. Sachin Kadlag: Yes, traditionally when it was not banned , it was even available abundantly in Maharashtra and was much cheper to use .
Saparsha: In Mythology, Lord Shiva ate Bhang to heal himself after consuming poison that came out of churning ocean. And to honour him, get closer to God, people consume bhang! It’s more in North India because there people worship lord Shiva more than other regions!
Ayulink Ayurveda: The celebration includes maintaining a "jaagaran", an all-night vigil and prayers - Ratri jagaran in the rutu sandhi kal - Vasant rutu is also according to ayurveda - most effective to control kapha aggravation
Dr. dhananjay Bairagi: वातकुलान्तक रस
Dr. Jwalit shah:
Ayulink Ayurveda: My understanding is: Maha Shivratri is the starting day of rutu sandhi and Holi is ending day - Hemant to Vasant rutu changes......is it correct?
Dr Anshul Bahl: But ghota can increase kapha
Vd. Sachin Kadlag: Yes , this is correct in accordance with Ayurveda
Ayulink Ayurveda: Each rutu sandhi is described as 1 week from prior rutu and 1 week of coming rutu.....in that way.. it is perfact for our understanding. I think thats why Fasting is important too. to prevent kapha aggravation...one must consume dry, laghu aahar. mostly people go for murmure or poha or popcorn...I think that's the reason behind the tradition
Dr. dhananjay Bairagi: In that sense evey festival of indian culture is related with body and nature.
Ayulink Ayurveda: Yes, but what is the significance of ratri? that I dont understand. any logic? hypothesis?
Dr. Jwalit shah: રાત્રી જાગરણ leads to vata prakopa, in ruksha guna vruddhi, kapha kshaya??
Dr. Vidhi Jani: Sir ratri jagaran is beneficial in kapha aggravation ...so it is called as ratri & there is tradition to awake till late night
Ayulink Ayurveda: another tradition is to offer flowers of ark to shiva......why ark flowers in this particular season or days? Shiva is always have connection with toxic substances.....like bhang (cannabis) and ark etc. Shiva is considered to be destroyer of Vata too.
Vd. Sachin Kadlag: Dried form of owers of arka I have heard from by Gurus that they are shwasghna (antiasthamatic ) specially shwasa with kapha dominancy
Ayulink Ayurveda: Cannabis and ark - both are good for nearvous system problems....does it have any relation of celebration of shivratri in this month?
Dr. Madhuri Patil Chaudhari: Cannabis sativa Linn is one of the Vedic plants, or  medicinal and sacred plants that are mentioned in Veda, esp.  AtharvaVeda. The Rucha translated in english is  May cannabis and Jangida preserve me from vishkandha, - that  Brought to us from the forest, this springs from from the saps of husbandry, Atharva veda 2. 4.5 To the five kingdoms of the plants which soma rules as Lord we speak. Darbha, hemp, barley, mighty power; May these deliver us from woe AtharvaVeda 11.6.15. So is thus plant described. Bhang Ganja and Charas are derived from same plant but  have different effects related to Nervous system and Manovah strotas and on mind. Bhang is made of dried leaves. Ganja is dried fruit top of female plants from which no resin has been removed. charas is resinous exudate from the leaves , which is more addictive than the Bhang   The active i gradients are considered as euphorics, exhilarants, deliriants, hypnotics. excess use may cause sudden cardiac arrest , death mental derangement or insanity. Ayurveda, - Kaphahar, bitter, tikshna, ushna, produces confusion and delusions, Agnivardhak , profuse swedjanan also excessive talkativeness. oil is derived from its seeds, which has very less effect on Manovah strotas, more on Nervous system.  Excesive use causes Shukra Kshay Shodhan with godughdh is required before medicinal use. Roots of the plant are used to relieve Toothache. Paste of tender leaves is used as purgatives.Chinese use- Oil for dryness of throat, falling hair and Sulphur poisoning. Leaves fresh juice is antihelminthic, prevent Khalitya Paalitya.
Ayulink Ayurveda: yes, ark-kshir vati is popular formula for shwas
Vd. Sachin Kadlag: I think its opposite , Brahma starts world can be compared to Kapha dosha dominance  , Vishnu maintains it  and can be compared  to Pitra while Lord Shiva destroys  World and can be compared to Increase in Vata
Ayulink Ayurveda: I think the days between Maha Shivratri and Holi are busy days for doctors, as this is the peak time for viral disorders in all parts of India.
Dr. Madhuri Patil Chaudhari: Mahashivratri is the day when Third eye of Shiva opened up. Stillness moment. So may be during Vedic times .Bhang was used to facilitate. This stillness, by way of Inward journey of mind, away from sensory perceptions.
Ayulink Ayurveda: role of ark patra and ark flowers may be establish for viral diseases and allergies. any other relation of ayurveda with Maha shivratri? Rutusndhi Fasting - kapha aggravation Bhang for the same reason ark flowers -many points we shared.
Vd. Sachin Kadlag: Here in Maharashtra , Kapitha fruit is eaten on this day And also Bilwa patra is given to Lord Shiva
Anoop S. Anand: bhang though a narcotic but has many medicinal properties...the extracts of which are very popular in west for treating many major ailments
Ayulink Ayurveda: One more relavance we need to think...it is celebrated on 13th or 14th night of lunar cycle......is there any specific logic for that?
Vd. Sachin Kadlag: Bilwa patra is also a choice of many Vaidyas now a days choice as one of Pramehaghna medicine which is also a kapha pradhana disease
Dr. Pulkit Baxi: There may b relation with RASH SHASHTRA. BHANG MILK SOUF ALL HAVE MEDICINES PROPERTY Shivaji is Yogi nd spritual . (Meditation . )  dhyan awashtha. Yog nd AAYURVEDA --'x related to each other. I heard somewhere total 12 shivratri  arise in a YEAR. BUT MAHASHIVRATRTI IS MORE IMPORTANT.
Dr. Madhuri Patil Chaudhari: Yes. Yoge Mokshe ch . Ch Sha.  All pains relieved only via Yoga. Aadi Yogi, Shiva is. Vedic reference Arka Calotropis gigantea or milk weed. An amulate of arkawood issaid to give vitality- Atharvaveda 6.72 Ayurveda Antihelminthic purgative  root bark cures asthma and syphilis. flowers - anti - Tumor and anti- inflammation. relieve colic pains.  Leaves Ropan. useful in Paralysis  milk - useful- ringworm skin eruptions, arthritic joints.  root decoction in leucorrhea dried root powder useful in non-healing ulcer Considering  these medicinal properties. Both Arka and Bhanga are Vedically sacred plants. As a way to detoxify, Upvaas, Tap, Daivavyapashray chikitsa along with usage of  these Vedic plants, to relieve common major problems,  the tradition on Mahashivratri began. since on the topic, sharing this.
