Next topic for discussion:  Honey ……# ayurvedic qualities and effects
Dr. Pravin Tirmare: Honey ..it is most reliable antiseptic in the world# Ayurved
Dr. Suvarna V. Khairnar: In non healing wounds dressing of honey + ghee gives best results
Dr. Devesh Kumar: No pure honey is available
Dr. Devesh Kumar: Which company honey we should use sir
Dr. Sheetal Sumra: Phonda ghat honey is good
Dr. Uday H. Hanagal: Coorg Company (Karnataka) Honey is good.
Dr. Santosh Swami: Satmaha honey
Dr. Rammesh Natu: Has anybody carried out analysis of Honey?
Mr. Rahul Pujari: I bought one honey called honest honey. He collects from uttrakhand. I have spoke to the person who runs the company. Seems genuine ,  I am using the honey
Dr. Rammesh Natu: If not carry out for ten popular brands. Analysis by laboratory methods. Apply Ayurveda principles. You will realize what is best.
Mr. Rahul Pujari: There are some other brands  as well of forest honey. My method of making sure is too talk to the brand or the company
Dr. Rammesh Natu: You should have faith based on the facts
Dr. Samir Suneri: I also using
Dr. J. T. Contractor: If a drop of honey put in a plate of water & it doesn't dissolve or doesn't disperse in water, honey is genuine
Mr. Rahul Pujari: Oh.ok. I really like his honey.
Dr. Rammesh Natu: Dr Prerak.I think initiate the project on analysis of Honey. Most of the medicines are taken with Honey, warm water etc as carrier. If carrier is not authentic then how medicines will work effectively.
Dr. J. T. Contractor: Second way is to put a drop of honey on a cloth & if moves like pill rolls, without being absorbed on cloth fibers, the honey is genuine.
Honey ( madh- Guj) is sold branded are actually Madhuras! Mfgr on specification per nomes drawn by the food authorities
Dr. Rammesh Natu: Maggie was also produced taking approval of government authorities. What happened?
Vd. Prerak Shah: I made a small survey of honey before 30 years. We collected 7-8 different branded honey available in the market and made all basic tests as you have suggested above - drop in water, drop on cloth, make a cotton roll and burn it etc. And surprisingly all of them were proved genuine honey. Then we went through honey purity test as per I. P. And again all were proved genuine. Finally we look for a special test described in BP (I think this hydrochloric resorcin acid test - if I am not forgetting, which is now a part of IP) With this test, all honey we collected proved fake. Finally we went to nearby village, got honey from honeycomb in front of our eyes, get tested and it proved genuine honey. So testing of honey is a big challenge.
May be Pharma scholars in our group can send more details.
Dr. Uday H. Hanagal: Honey test-- Take long match box stick & dip well in the separated Honey from the Container, then heat with the help of Candle flame if it makes chat chat sound it is not pure because it contains Boiled Jaggary Paka, without sound burns continuously  that only the Purest Honey.
Vd. Prerak Shah: Later I learnt how to make honey at home from liquid glucose + colour and essence. This is very cheap and passes through all our basic examination.
Dr. Gaurav Makan: Dr. Prerak sir. So you want to say that if we want genuine honey, we must get it collected from bee hives?
Dr. J. T. Contractor: It's a honey mockery it seems, no one can trust such manufactured honey
Dr. Rammesh Natu: Analysis wise Invert sugar is comparable with Honey... Colour and glucose, fructose contents. But what about other natural ingredients?
As Dr Prerak suggested meeting IP is one criteria and other has to be Ayurveda parameters.
Dr. Rammesh Natu: Invert sugar, liquid sugar, high fructose corn syrup will show more or less same chemical analysis.
Vd. Prerak Shah: Invert sugar, liquid sugar, high fructose corn syrup etc passes all folk tests like drop in glass of water, drop on cotton, burning on fire etc - we can't prove it fake honey.
Vd. Prerak Shah: In last 30 years, I don't think the situation has changed. May be more worse. Finding genuine honey is really a debatable question. Many honey producers also claims to have certified organic honey. Some also give us the name of the spices of bees they use, sometimes they also gives the guarantee of quality and name of the crop, where they have bee farms. It's up to us, how much to believe in such claims.
Mr. Ram Vala: Valuable information. Dr Prerak ji
Dr. Rammesh Natu: You can form a cooperative for manufacturing Honey. This will change the scenario of India. Only Ayurvedians will show a way of authentic honey.
Mr. Rahul Pujari: I think the best way is too buy from small producers who we can directly speak to and if needed can visit. Beyond that it's tough. I bought the brand I use after going through 25 brands.  I have spoken to guy promoting the brand and he seemed very passionate and genuine. But can I be 100 percent sure.  No.
Dr. Rammesh Natu: You may bring small manufacturers together and form a cooperative...
Dr. Mrugeshkumar Patel: Dr Prerakji this honey is frozen in fridge become solid ? What is the parameters it is pure natural bee honey ?
Dr. S. P. Deshpande: No one can gurantee the purety in medical aspect. We have to choose from the best what we think.
Dr. Mrugeshkumar Patel: What is fake honey & natural different effects on human beings..?
Dr. Sachin Utpat: Ayurved has described 8 types of honey. I think what is mentioned in texts if we follow we need not to find any other tests
Dr. Rammesh Natu: Surprised. Honey in freeze?
Dr. Mrugeshkumar Patel: Natural honey not become solid.
Dr. Madhuri Patil Chaudhari: yes. Natural honey doesnt freeze or solidify or crystallize over time
Vd. Tanuja Gokhale: Natural honey does crystallise over time. That is called madhusharkara. It has same properties as of honey. This is mentioned in texts.
Vd. Tanuja Gokhale: Natural honey when new or fresh is light in colour n darkens as it ages. Honey upto 1 yr is poushtik n over 1 yr it becomes lekhan.
As Dr Prerak Shah ji has mentioned of difficulties in finding n knowing pure honey.
Agmark or FDI earlier n now FSSAI does allow the manufacturer to add upto 30% of sugar or jaggery.
Vd. Gurumahantesh: Is Sita actually the  crystallized honey?
Vd. Prerak Shah: No. I think Sita = rock sugar….Which is used in sitopaladi churna
Vd. Tanuja Gokhale: As the forests are decreasing, the bees are getting extinct, the sale n consumption in market is much more than the actual production.
Vd. Tanuja Gokhale: The flower agricultute n horticulture does use enormous insecticides n pesticides. These traces are also found in honey.
Dr. Mrugeshkumar Patel: In Ayurveda old honey is very  useful fake honey is also very useful.?
Dr. Rammesh Natu: Malpractices will increase if appropriate and timely action is not taken
Vd. Prerak Shah: There are now commercial bee farms, which claims for many parameters. Best crop availability for bees. Best season, best breed of honeybees etc. But nobody come forward to offer demonstration of chemical test from BP (British pharmacopeia or IP - Indian pharmacopeia). These test are very easy and doesn't cost much or take more time. Genuine merchant must come out with internationally accepted testing parameters.
Vd. Tanuja Gokhale: I had visited a few Khadiie govt owned startups decades ago. The bees were offered sugar dissolved in water. 😳
Bunty Gandhi: I heard that GSFDC honey is quite good..They sell it with dhanvantary brand..
Mr. Rahul Pujari: Yes. Most commercial honey farms are feeding needs sugar water or jagger water or mollasses
Mr. Rahul Pujari: In a forest a bee would collect nectar from various flowers and rotting fruits and other sources.  Hence those qualities would be reflected in the honey
Dr. Tredha Vyas: Yess. dhantvantari honey is very good in quality. . Which is sold by GSFDC..
Bunty Gandhi: I found it much good than many known brands..
USA Gary Yuen: Someone mentioned Patanjali honey. Any opinions of what's preferred. Dabur or Patanjali chyawanprash. Only those two brands available in some places.
Nigeria Mr. M. Gopikrishna: I remember that 5-6 years back, honey from very famous indian fmcg companies were detected with Ciprofloxacin as contamination. Literally these companies have added cipro to prevent development of any bacteria. Which was a bad practice.
And Dr.prerak can advice - if you wish pure honey from Africa, where the honey is from a government honey production centre, they sell in cans. If the requirement is truly pure honey, good/large quality ,this can be trusted source.
 Anand Javeri: Forwarded as received
The above says to add 2 drops of honey in a glass of water.
Pure honey would settle down, whereas, adulterated would disperse.
Mr Hitesh Patel: As the honey we cant get pure also the cow pure ghee is also difficult to get
Dr. Mrugeshkumar Patel: In medicine GMP, GLP, TLS standardization test done by laboratory in honey.
Vd. Prerak Shah: Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Honey.
