Sub.:

Plant based Ayurveda medicines and its side effects (we are not talking abt heavy metal etc)

Jamanagar - Vd. Joban Modha: Shatavari has side effect of coughing and Kapha related disorders.
- Esp if given for longer duration or higher dose.
- Ashwagandha may cause headache if it doesn't digest properly and converts in to Rasa form Bhallataka and Vatsanabh containing herbs create severe Pittavruddhi related disorders and symptoms
- Vasa should not be given to Vaata prakriti or patients
- Chyavanprahs or other Amalaki yoga must be prepared after collecting properly ripen Amalaki

Dr. Minoo parabia: May I just make a tentative list. Prerakbhai someone must write a book on this topic.
Centella asiatica
Datura metel
Srychnos nuxvomics
Asparagus racemosus
Withania somnifera
Semecarpud marsupium
Glycirrhiza glabra
Semecarpus anacardium
Anacardium occidental

You have stirred an hornet nest. We all love plants and plant based drugs. This also proves the popularity of your group. Great. Hats off. Carry on please

Vd. Joban Modha: Semicarpus Anacardium was a part of my MD studies.. I used to make Kalka every day.. After few months I started getting swelling over face just because of volatiles while pounding
Eversince I have become allergic to Mangoes Eggplants and Cauliflower
These all are not side effects but it happens if not used as prescribed in classics

Jamnagar Vd. Anup Thaker: One should differentiate between side effects, toxic effects and injudicious use of drugs

Vd. Prerak Shah : Vd. Anupbhai we want to discuss all kind of effects you described. Thnx for making this suggestion.

Vd. Anup Thaker: Ok. In that case even prolonged use of  Sudarshan choorna in higher doses with out logic leads to damage of kidneys
Even injudicious use of food article is harmful than after all these are drugs
To my opinion almost every drug has side effects contract indication or ADRs except Rasayana group drugs... Every drug should be prescribed with time and prakriti constrain. 65 to 75 of total ayu drugs r sold as OTC so either vaidya should owe ayu pharmacy stores or Ayu pharmacy education must be consider v seriously

Vd. Mehulbhai Sanghani: If you are qualified vaidya you need to keep in mind abt this;
- ek b ausadh aisa nahi hai jinki koi side effect ho
Prakruti, Doshha, Vaya, Ausadh jo vishh dravy hai unki shuddhi, Yogy matra
Fir sab ausadh amrut hi hai koi side effect nahi

Vd. Jignesh Thakkar Bhuj: If anybody uses shivakshar pachan or sankhvati for long duration then it can cause skin diseases /hairfall and eye disorders.
Because it contains kshar
This drugs should not be used for more then 45 days

Vd. Mehulbhai Sanghani: Lavan ras atiyog. Clear hai.

Vd. Jignesh Thakkar: Vagbhatt is the first acharya to notice sideeffects of guggalu. According to him excessive guggulu can lead to klaibya.
It is questionable to use guggalu for more then 1 month.we all know gastric intolerance of guggalu.
- Sarpgandha is tranquilizer and antihypertensive at the same time can cause impotence.
- We have to accept side effects of our drugs. see the Vagbhatt instead of no achrya before him noticed side effect of guggulu. he describes in his text.
So be open and be centered.

Usa- Vd Dinesh pandya:
Yashtimadhu for long time create water retention and hypertension.

Vd. Pankaj Chhayani:
Sarpagandha causes nightmare...

Parabia sir:
As promised my comments.
Bhallatak: one of my students Dr. Falguni, on hearing my comment about the allergic effect, plucked a leaf and smeared on her arm  telling me,  " sir nothing happened".
Next day she reported swallen arm with severe pain. Of course she recovered but the symptoms kept recurring every year with calendar precision.
Dr. Jagruti pandya, who tasted anticancer activity of Semecarpus would always come up with swallen body after performing every field collection.
Gorakhmundi: whenever powdering is attempted the smell causes allergic reaction to the nearby person.
Sarpagandha: depression on prolonged use.
Amala, panfuti tend to precipitate joint pain.
Guggulu: if taken empty stomach causes gastritis.
Be warned that real dalchini id cinnamomum zeylanicum. It is good but the adulterant from C.cassia contains coumarin and carcinogenic.
Licorice tend to be emetic , of course desired effect for treating congestion.
Garlic causes hyperacidity to many. Better taken after frying in ghee.
Brahmi causes skin irritation at higher dose.
Ark latex is antipyretic, antimalarial as well as anti asthmatic. Causes vomiting.
Datura, kurmani ajma contain hyoscyamine higher dose causes problems.
Jyotismati at slightly higher dose cause adverse effect.
All of the above are  wonderful drug in hands of trained experienced Vaidya. Life saving.
